Hi all. As a new member that is my first post. 3 weeks ago I changed my 2007 Ford Ranger 2 wd pick up truck for a 97000 km 2008 Yaris HB. I added a little bit over 3000 km to the car, mostly delivering rural mail. Main reasons for changing car was ability to deliver mail to mailboxes without a helper and, for sure, gas mileage.
I was a little skeptic before doing the exchange but now I am convinced the Yaris is a great great little car! I find it smooth and peppy, even with automatic transmission. In mail delivery mode, it sips between 7.5 to 7.8 liters per 100 km; my Ranger in the same conditions burned 15 to 18 liters. Also, much more fun to drive and park in congested area! I`m a happy Yaris new owner.

That mileage maybe a big change from the ranger but seems real high for a yaris HB.. wooops... didn't pay attention to the type of driving... mailbox to mail box that maybe great mileage!

Apart racing, I think that mailbox to mailbox delivery is the worst case scenario for fuel efficiency: it`s almost full time stop and go! Since I am rarely on a hurry, I always drive very very smoothly, cruising at 85 to 95 kmh on open roads, no higher than 100 kmh on highways, accelerating like there was an egg between my right foot and the pedal. Up to now, my worst mileage was 8.2 l/100km (mail delivery) and best was 6.1 l/100 km during a 3 days holyday period (no mail). My personnal goal will be to reach under 6 l/100 km next summertime during a no mail period, since I think it would be impossible in winter...but which I`ll try anyway!
