Hello,

I sorta new to all of this. i have a 2008 yaris 4dr and have come into a particular issue. as the title says; the driver seat wont stay in place and its quite dangerous to drive like that. it just slides back when i press the gas and forward when braking. the release bar is loose, just moves up and down. i didnt see anything under the seat that fell off. im assuming a spring or something myabe have fallen off place. even when the lever is pressed down it still wont lock. is there a fix for this or should i just scavenge a junk yard for a new seat? i was quote $2000!!!! for the repair. im not paying that. snows balls in hell!

Toyota considers that assembly to be part of the entire seat frame (and then the rails are two separate additional parts), so your best bet is a junkyard.

Below is a picture of a set of seat rails that I recently sold. The left one is the drivers side. The entire assembly is bolted to the bottom of the seat with a few bolts. You could try taking yours apart to see if there is something obvious with the latching mechanism.

Yeah, pop the seat out. It's very easy with only 4 E10 torx bolts holding it in. Once you can see the underside, being such a simple mechanism, it should be easy to diagnose the problem.
