airbags, chicago region?

well, i was very close to trading my corolla for a yaris. yes, many would say im trading down, but ive always been patial to small hatchbacks and the corolla aint it. anyway, the crash test results have me concerned, so id like side airbags. however, configuring the car on toyotas website (chicago region) shows only the convenience package or power package (which does not include abs or sab). i can due without the abs, but would really like the airbags. does it have to be special ordered or are they making some with just the side airbags? im guessing if they are making any hatches with sab it also has the power package, thus adding about $2k to the price (bringing the car into 14,500 territory--too much for this car imo).

bottom line, can i get a hatch with just the conv. package and the side airbags??

thanks--i peferred to get my info here rather than the dealer because, to be blunt, i feel the salesman at my local dealership arent going to give me the straight scoop.

As far as I know, side airbags are not part of a package. They are an extra standalone option for $650. My yaris LB has the side airbags, and on the window sticker it puts the side curtain airbags as a option by itself for $650. Oh, I paid full retail for my yaris, but there isn't much room to haggle prices when I bought mine because it was in such sort supply and high demand back in July. Would definitely recommend getting the extra airbags for safety and the added insurance discount. My full coverage insurance (minus rental car option) only costs me $124/mo and I'm 25 and not a perfect driving record. :smile: EDIT: I don't have the power package, nor do I have ABS., check my thread for options..

i just talked to the dealer. i can get side airbags, which are packaged with abs and the conv. package. i really dont care about the power doors/locks. however, the only thing available is silver or bayou blue, not my top color choices. (ohterwise about 6-8 week wait--the trade in offer on my corolla is outrageously good, so id like to move on it)

anybody wanna tout bayou blue over blazin blue or black???

oops! my corolla (2005 model) also gets IIHS poor rating for side impact. i assumed it was better than yaris since its a bit larger. guess not.

Silver is a great color in this car, so is black. Blue looks like shit on any car. Sorry blue drivers, just my opinion.
