I run snow tires in the winter on a separate set of steel wheels. My original stock tires have just about had it @ 49'000 miles.
So I am looking for replacement tire to run basically 3 seasons. After everything I have read I have settled on the Hankok H727's. So in a few weeks when I throw the Arctics on I will either get them then or wait till the spring when I switch back. So no real rush, just gonna get the best deal for myself.
I may even contact the place I got my winters in CT. and get a quote. One place I will not go is a local tire place I visited this week for a quote. Take off the present tire, throw on the snows and put a set of H727's on the orginal wheels that have the TPMS valves balance them etc. I'll take them home and put them in the garage. $505 + tax.
So I guess I wont be going back there. Really, what is a reasonable cost to mount and balance 4 tires? TIRERACK has got them for $236 after rebate + $44 Shipping. (Currently running a $40 rebate on a set of 4)
Will call call my local mechanic and ask him what he charges. Even at $30/ tire, which I doubt..............Plus i'm guessing the tire place pays less than Tirerack charges.
I understand there is a "convenience" cost I suppose, not having to lug them to and fro etc. is worth something, i'm just not there yet.
195's vs 185's what is difference in handling, <mpg's etc. Is it worth it?
