Hi all, I got my car registration renewal in the mail and I have to smog check my 2008 Yaris for the first time
Question is, is this AFE Intake System (http://tinyurl.com/l4zjc55) legal to have installed in my car in California or will it give me an automatic fail at the smog check?
I bought this car used with the intake system already installed so I don't have the stock intake system to put back in :frown:

Anyone have any info? Maybe some CA Yaris owners have some input?
If worse comes to worse, does anyone know where I can purchase the stock air intake system so I can at least re-install it in my car for the smog check?

I'm pretty sure that in CA, you will probably pass the sniffer test, but fail on visual. I think that's how it works out there. Most simply swap in stock for the emission test, and put intake in after since it is so easy to do. Post in the Wanted to Buy forum. You may get lucky.

Most smog guys, if it's a small inspection shop, will pass that intake visually. You might have to coax them, and you might have to go to two places to get it done. It will certainly pass the actual emissions test.

Can someone give me an idea of what I should pay for a used stock air intake assembly? I found a couple of Yaris' being parted out on Craigslist but I have no idea how much to offer.

I've seen them sold on here for prices ranging from $10 to $100
I would think that making an offer in the $50-$60 range would be quite reasonable. Just make sure that the charcoal filter has not been removed from it. Some people drill them out as they feel that it makes the intake restrictive. CARB needs it to be there.

Charcoal filter? Not sure what that is and where to look for it :iono:
Care to enlighten me?

You can see in this pic, the charcoal filter on the left. It is affixed to the underside of the intake box's top piece.

I sold my stock intake to CTScott for the cost of shipping.

Did you try smogging the car yet? That's the easiest thing to do, and you might not have to go to all this trouble trying to find a stock intake assembly.
