Hm that's a pretty good deal.... do you have an idea what it would cost to have the trans rebuilt?

No idea what a rebuild would run. The sum of the synchro rings looks to be about $150.
You could also pick up a used good MT from a local junkyard. They tend to run about $250 to $350 from what I have seen.

Two kits. One from a Yaris that I parted and one from one that I did a MT to AT conversion on.

Man....
If I wasn't balls deep into rebuilding my truck's engine I'd buy one of these.

Scott. Is it very expensive to go from manual to auto? How hard of a job is it?

What I have spent doing the manual to auto conversion is:
1. Automatic Transmission: $300
2. AT Shifter Assembly: $75
3. AT Shifter Cable: $107
4. AT Rear Frame Mount: $22
5. Shifter Cable mounting brackets and AT cooler hoses: $67
6. AT Wiring Harness: $80
7. AT ECM: $50
8. AT Brake Pedal: $50
9. AT Flywheel: $25
Labor-wise it is not that bad, as in my case I already had the engine out.

Not bad idea but where I live, it's to much traffic and way to many stop lights to warrant a switch. I'll keep my car the way it is, stock auto transmission.

I can tell you that so far from my research since I burned through my first C50 it was going to run me in the neighborhood of 1k-1200 to do a rebuild with two new gears from the Vibe. A good portion of that cost will be the tools as I have been informed at the least there is 400 in specialty tools alone. The biggest issue is that there really isn't a call for C50 rebuilds so most shops would need to procure the proper tools.

Can I put it on layaway? I just started my first "real" job as a salaried engineer, and I'll have some money to play with in about 2 weeks.

Thanks! I've got my pre-swap C50 sitting on the workbench, with dreams of using it to convert an auto to a manual since they're so much easier to find. I want to start rallyX or stage rally soon, but don't want to feed rocks to the undercarriage of my DD, so this would be an excellent starting point!

Did you end up selling this to him? I see it's been several months now but thought I would check. I'm planning on doing the conversion later this summer, I'd love to buy that kit for that price
I've done a decent amount to my car so far, a long way to go and learned A LOT from these forums. On my first post I wanted to thank you CTScott among others like Garm and TTR, your research and insight on the yaris has let me believe I can actually build my own stage rally car!!

I think I remember reading you could flash the ECM to the VIN on my car for 50? If that's the case I'd definitely want to do that.

Yes. I can reflash the VIN into the ECM. I don't have an MT ECM on hand, but they can typically be found for under $50.
