Got my worst fuel economy last week

Got the 3 big fuel killers last week: mail delivery (194 mail boxes each day), cold temp (-30 to - 18 C) and many inches of snow on slippery road sides.
So yesterday I filled up 34 l (8.9 us gallons) for 368.9 km (229.2 miles), which give 9.22 l/100km, or 25.75 mpg, worst result since I got my still beloved 2008 Yaris at the end of late September. My alltime best is 6.1 l/100 (38.2 mpg).
For the record, my 2007 2wd Ford Ranger (3 l engine) pickup managed 19 l/100 (12.33 mpg), with 400 lbs of sand bags in the bed, for the same job and conditions. So, on a positive note, I still double the FE of my previous wheels...and traction in deep snow is much better with the Yaris than with the ballasted 2 wd pickup.

i've hovering around 8.5L/100km with 70% city driving and plenty of idle warming.

Glad I'm not the only one. I got 25mpg last week with nearly 75% city driving stuck in traffic.

sorry guys...I still haven't gotten less than 400 miles out of a tank, even this winter. however, I don't do much true city driving. mostly what I would call suburban/rural type commutes.

that sounds about right.

On my last tank (25-ish mpg) one day I went 10 miles... at 10 mph. :cry: Most of that was sitting still for a full 30 minutes.

All the comments tend to confirm that my fuel efficiency is not so bad after all. My typical mail delivery looks like I drive a 112 km traffic jam everyday. Add to that the cold temp, the winter tires and the snowy roadside and I now understand that I cannot reach the around 7.5 l/100 km for the same run last October!

As its winter its a bad time to be expecting great gas mileage, snow tires and winter gas formulations conspire to undermine the cars peak efficiency.At this time of year 350-400kms is about all i can hope for, while that is far from peak efficiency i have to wonder how those in their big 4X4 pickups are coping with their less than stellar performance,:biggrin:

before I went boosted my worst tank was 23mpg believe it or not...had several a few years back that were between 23-25. Only time that it happened though which is weird.

My latest tank (about 1/4 tank left) is almost 44mpg average. I have been driving pretty carefully, but not doing anything drastic. In the heart of the winter, I was averaging about 30-32mpg or so, as I recall. I always figure about a 20-25% drop in mpg in winter (I'm in northern MN).

winter average (dec 1-march 30) was 39.68. same routes and driving style from May 1 to now is 45.66, so roughly a 15% increase w/ the warmer weather/winter gas.

Seemingly my 1.0 has stabilized at 6.2...6.5l/100km
My next one might be a Prius ;)

I'll be heading out to Ohio in a few weeks, again. I fully expect to 43-45 mpg. avg. on a 740 mile run. Barring no traffic impediments.

I filled up about two weeks ago and I"m going to have to fill up again. It seem the hot, muggy weather we have is making the car use more fuel. I've only used the A/C a few times for up to ten minutes. :(

Doesn't help either that gas is $1.42 / L :(

Luckily, I live in a non-metro area which does not require different gasoline formulations for seasons. So, my fuel usage stays fairly steady-ish. I do notice a slight decrease when using the AC in warmer months, but nothing substantial.

What I DO notice is the difference in using E-10 versus E-0 fuel. The pure gas basically gives me about three or so MPG more per tank. Though, honestly, the price of E-0 is not that cost effective in relation to E-10. I just use E-0 since I *think* it might be kinder to my engine the long run.

The hood of cars get very hot, horrible the only time I don't feel it, is when the A/C is on, then I'm using gas. :thumbdown::bs:
