Hey guys, I'm new around here and I need you help.
I'm traveling next month to LA. I was wondering, is there ANY store/shop/garage however you want to call it, where I can actually purchase a CAI for my Yaris? It's a 1.5L 08 4DR. I searched for the K&N typhoon CAI in amazon and it's almost $250. I was hoping to get a lower price around. What are your thoughts? I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks.
J

250 is actually a very reasonable price.. you get lots in the box

My 08 came with a K&N CAI. I'll ship it to you for $125.

Our shop is near LA and if we have some notice, I'll install it for you while you're there. I usually keep K&N, AEM, Fujit and AFE in stock on the shelf.

Just returned from Guanacaste, by the way. Pura vida!

As a racing car enthousiast and builder, I have to ask: Isn't that shiny pipe gonna be real hot if you idle your engine after warming it up? Wouldn't that be a hot air intake?

Or are you getting a rubber connector pipe from the filter to the tb?

^ Only momentarily, and only when you're not moving. A cold air intake is proven to reduce intake air temperatures, and that does increase power to some degree.

Another function of a cold air intake (or short ram) is to increase air flow into the motor.

Why not one of these then? I had one on my CUP spec volvo untill they were outlawed and I have to say, they really do work!

^ just went to their website as I had never heard of them. Only product they seem to have for the INZ is a replacement filter for the OEM air box. $82.53 USD

A "universal" CDA is $247.59

You can get universal models, they don't make one specifically for the volvo either, so I got one for the 2 litres and up models. Gonna put it on my bmw now since I'm selling the volvo.

But if the price for the K&N was about 250 dollars, I paid 240 euros for this filter INCLUDING 4 iridium spark plugs, so it should be around the same price?

In looking at the universal product, it appears that the cylinder attaches to the intake tube which contains that MAF. The flexible tube then snorkels to your desired location for drawing air. Is that correct. Looks like something well suited for a ram air application.

Yes, that is correct. And the box itself is also a RAM like application due to the way the air gets tunneled through it :)

Would be good if ducted from an open foglight hole!

But what does the filter look like, and how much is a replacement?

I don't think you'll need a replacement, you can just clean the one inside afaik.

Looks alright. I don't see how that's any less restrictive than purposed intake products for the Yaris.

I have one on my 07 Yaris and have been very happy with it. A couple of vids:

I have an axle-back muffler, too.
