Red water light

Hi Guys,

dont know if im posting in the correct section. yesterday i notice that the red light on my dash goes on. and also noticed that a weird sound coming from the engin bay. almost like its my water pump.

Can it be? i know if its the water pump im in deep shit.

if any one can give me a few pointers or troubleshooting steps it will help alot.:help:

Which red light? Check engine light?

Any loss of coolant?
If you listen in the engine bay, is the sound coming from the water pump?
All belts working?

Etc.

@Cali Yaris, i check the engin light its not that. its the Red light that looks like a water bottel thingy. i checked my oil this morning all seems to be fine. there is no loss in coolant and all the belts are working. and it sounds like its coming from the water pump yes.

Check the radiator level - not just the reserve.

Then check to make sure the water pump pulley is actually rotating. Sounds like the pump would have seized.

What you describe sounds like a HOT ENGINE warning indication. My Yaris is in winter hibernation so I can't check immediately - but no, if you've got warnings and funny noises under the hood, it's worth a tow to the dealer or your mechanic.

With an aluminum engine, temperature-related issues can go very bad very fast.

thanks for the advise. Car is currently at the mechanic. the light will stay on for a few minutes and will go off again. and then the funny sound stops also. i checked the pulley and it is rotating. i just hope i can get this sorted out.
