2012 Yaris LE Check Engine Light On/Eco Light Off

Hello,

I am very new to this forum and hoping someone has experienced the same thing! My 2012 Yaris Engine light came on this morning at start-up and the ECO light was off during my whole drive! I've never had the eco light go off for more than 10 seconds (max) while driving. I have 18,500 miles on the car and I purchased it almost 2 years ago (1 yr. 11 months to be exact). Can anyone shed light on this situation? I usually use unleaded with ethanol, but after this long of using it, I cannot imagine that would be the problem.

The service manual only indicates that the ECO light will be off if the "ignition is off, engine is stopping, shift lever in position other than D, or vehicle speed over 81 MPH".

The light is driven by CAN bus message from the ECM to the cluster, so it is likely that until the check engine light is clear that the ECO mode will remain off. Most auto parts stores will read the code for why the CEL is on for free, so it would be a good idea to either hit one or hit your dealer to get that done.
