Hey guys..
I was talking to the wife today in the car and I had the HVAC set to speed 1, and she commented how loud a hum it makes... I always knew it was loud, but I guess over the years I kinda forgot how loud it was...
How loud do you guys/gals find your fan when set to the first speed setting??
Again, it is a very noticeable hum sound at this setting.. And the cold really has not effect, and it is the same even in the summer....
Thanks everyone..
No, on the first two settings my fan actually barely makes any noise. With or without a/c on.
off course on the second it does make some noise but it's easily drowned out by the radio.

If you do not have a cabin air filter installed the hum may be due to something having been sucked into the fan (like a piece of paper from the glovebox).

Mine does make a little humming sound when it's running. I should make a video of the sound. Not sure how well it will turn out but i'll try...
I don't like the noise it makes, but i guess it's the way it is.. My Echo made the same noise.

my Echo's doesn't make any noise other than the sound of air coming through the vents.

Hi Scott.. I had a cabin filter front new.. I did find a another thread and it was noted that toyota changed the part# of the blower around 2010/09 , so I am going to assume they revised the blower motor and maybe to address it being a bit noise.

Interesting - I just looked in the EPC and there are 2 different part numbers. 87103-52140 and 52141. I have 52140 on my 07 and 08 and 52141 on my 09. I don't hear a difference between them. The part number is on the center of the bottom of the blower motor.

It just sounds like bad bearings to me.

900, that sky drive thing doesn't work for me. Can you put it up on YouTube or photobucket?

I think CB900's sounds like a bad bearing. Mine always sounded like in my youtube video... and my Echo also sounded like this...

It definitely does not sound normal. I haven't taken one far enough apart to see if the motor has bearings or is simply a cheap bushing type motor. I have a couple of quiet spares on hand, if you would like to replace it.

Hey guys..
Ordered a replacement from rockauto, and installed it an all is good now....nice and quiet..
I decided to take apart my old one too see what was the issue, and when I took apart the motor, it was a bad bearing... It was a bitch to take off the fan , not meant to be serviced..

Cool. Any pictures you could take? Also, do you think you could put it back together and use it again?

Hi Fasteddie... The part search tool at Rockauto is very easy to use... There is only one supplier (TYC) listed..
