Options and opinions?

Hey everyone so I have been going through the local CL and these are my current options.

They range from used to new, 15",16",17"

I am trying to figure out which way to go with these. I'm ok with used and they don't have to be the best looking as I am not trying to turn the YARIS into a show car, just thought I'd upgrade the rims while I needed to get new rubber.

I plan to plastidip the rims black and get red rim tape anyways unless they are new.

Hard to say, since I know nothing about your car. Color? Lowered?

The Acura rims are just horrible.

The Momos don't say 4x100 and the tire size is not quite right for the yaris. But I like the look.

Can't tell about the 17s'. You'll sacrifice some ride quality and they might be heavy (dont' know the weight).

Out of those indicated, definitely the Momos if they are 4x100. Yes the tire size is not ideal. The sidewalls are a little short. 195/50 is a nice size on 16s.

All the other options :thumbdown: imo

OH sorry my Yaris is a metalic white 2009 HB 4door stock. 14 inch steel rims.

The momo's might not be the right size? they say
"Momo Rims x4
Size 16" (4 bolt pattern)"

so i thought they would fit

There is the possibility that the momos are 4x114.3 and would not fit.

The 100 or 114.3 is the distance between studs.

WeeYari - thanks for your input. If the momo's don't fit I may go for the black miata ones. Once again I'm not trying to pimp out the yaris, just would like rims as I hate the steel rims.

If you end up contacting the seller to verify the 4x??? question, also ask what the offset of the wheels are. There should be a number stamped on the back side. This would be a 2 digit number probably in the range of 40 something to 30 something.

He just emailed back saying they should fit as I told him it was a yaris and that these rims came off his acura.

He just checked and the MOMOs are ET35 will this be an issue on tires he has now? This is outside the offset recommended on the wheel guide on this site

Yeah I like the 17s too. They can do 16s in a few different styles with tires, all new but they would want 699 plus tax (all in mounted balanced and out the door)

No, you will be fine. With the short tires tho, your wheel gap is going to be big enough to stuff a football into.

Looks like I'm going to check out the momo rims this saturday.

Wee Yari - if I lower the car with springs I take it that would reduce the gap and make the tires fit better? saw some springs that would lower the car 1.5 inches

Dropping 1.5" should leave you with a sloppy two finger gap unless you have sausage fingers, in which case it would be a tight two finger gab.

ET35 + 205 tires may mean that you will experience mild buzzing in the rear as the tires rub against the fender liner going over hard dips or with a load of passengers and stuff.

One of my sets of wheels was 16" ET42 clad with 195/50 tires. These were coupled with 10mm spacers giving me an effective offset of 32. The rear right would rub. Had to introduce mild camber washers to tip the top of the wheel inward enough to totally clear the liner.

That sounds right to me, but does the Yaris have fender liners in the rear? Usually rubbing in the rear happens right on the fender edge.

^ Sorry, that is correct. I was envisioning a liner, but that is only in the lower rear portion of the wheel well. So yes, the rub will occur in the fender lip at the top of the arch.

We fit them to make sure the bolt pattern worked. Noticed the lug nuts are small on the stock rims and sink deep into the new rim lug holes. Do I HAVE to buy new longer lug nuts?

Hahaha yeah I didn't realize the 5 bolts on the caps till went to take off a tire.

So do I need longer lug nuts? Also what size threads are they on the yaris?

The depth of the wheel's lug nut holes doesn't matter. The key is to look at the shape of the surface that the lug nut touches and make sure that it is the same shape as the lug. So, if it has a taper (and the angle of the tapers match), you would use tapered lugnuts (which is what the OEM ones for the steelies are). Some alloy rims have really tight holes, where you can't fit the stock lugs with a wrench into. In that case you have to use smaller outer dimension lugs.
