Hi,
I have a manual 07 Toyota vitz and having kind of problem during cold weather. It was (-20 F today morning). The engine starts fine without any problems. However when put it on gear it feels like it is not transmitting power to the wheels. It did move forward some. But later any amount of pressing on the gas does not help. And for some reason it appears to go in reverse better than move forward. Then I smell something burning in the engine. I open the hood and there is white smoke and it smells like burning rubber but the wheels are barely turning. Could someone hint me what could be wrong.

At -20 your gear oil is probably almost solid, so your clutch was slipping and making the smoke/smell. When it is that cold you really need to let the car warm up.

I had my snow plowing Yaris parked outside for a couple of weeks while I had another YAris that I was working on in its spot in the garage. During our spell of below zero weather I went to use it one day and it would barely move. I thought its automatic transmission was one its way out, but as soon as it warmed up a bit it was perfectly fine.

Is this specific to yaris or manual. Because I after that I started up the automatic 08 Honda civic and it had no trouble moving.

That was the first time that I had seen that behavior, so I can't say if it is a common issue with the Yaris.

if it slips at -20f, your clutch is probably on its way out too.

never had issue with mine even with this kinda temp during december/january, but the clutch pedal was quite hard to press..

I came home today and let the car heat for about 20 minutes. There is no power being transmitted to the wheels. It starts fine and I am able to change gears without problem but no power to wheels. has the clutch completely burnt up. Looks like I have to tow the vehicle to the shop.

The gear shifts but no power to wheels. Can somebody confirm if this is a problem with a clutch or something else is broken

likely a dead clutch. best is to bring it to a mechanics.
