This is a 2000 silver four door I bought for him six years ago when he was in college. The particulars:
I paid $3000 for it with 117k on it. The car looked and drove like new. When sold it had ~200k on it, the alternator bearings were noisy, the power steering didnt work (probably the belt) and the front end made a lot of noise when you hit pot holes. He and his gf drove it to Seattle from NJ twice. And to Maine and back one summer. I estimate we put $450 in to it, mostly tires (which were less than $30 then!) including a rebuilt MAF sensor, oil and air fliters and a new battery.
I sold it for $1300 and fifteen people were interested in it. After it was gone one of them offered $1600 over the phone, sight unseen, with desparation in their voice!
I am told the car is now on its way to Costa Rica.

I wonder why a 200k miles ECHO would be so attractive lol.
The Toyota name probably helped, and that bullet proof engine.

Another reason (that I was well aware of when you posted this, have heard from multiple sources, but for some reason didn't recall when I saw this thread on 2-16 :bonk:) is that 'Cash for Clunkers' reduced the pool of such cars. A decrease in supply can push prices up .

You can see the antenna is missing. Came that way from the dealer.
Anyone got a spare one if the dealer wont make good on it?

It will.
But dont be afraid to fix it if things break. Best person to do that is YOU! With help from YW.
Or find a good mechanic you trust.

Oh and IMHO using expensive oils and filters does nothing to make your car last longer! My sons car got whatever was on sale!
200,000 miles baby! :drinking:

There is always something good (oils that meet spec.'s & a new filter) on sale that will satisfy the needs of this car & engine. It is important that the car gets an oil & filter change on a regular basis.
Gosh only knows how many cars are driving around out there that have tens of thousands of miles on 1 oil change.
I know my 1NZ-FE is going to be glad it found my garage 10 or 20 years from now,

My neighbor has a 2000 odd Taurus which I believe has 88,000 miles on it and ONE fill of oil its entire life! He does keep the level up religiously.
He believes oil changes are being forced through mind control by the dealers and repair shops by special radio waves we cannot hear or feel.
Interesting fellow, my neighbor.

...Glad he's YOUR neighbor...:bellyroll:
UM, all I can say is WTF?
My old saying...'We're all nuts, just some more than others'
I know, that's just plain stupid. It's not like a car can filter out the impurities, then excuse itself & use the little Yaris' Room and get rid of them and flush...
I'm not a genius (pretty close...:bellyroll:) but have pretty good common sense (99% of the time :bellyroll:) but c'mon, do SOME KINDA UPKEEP on that investment....... Thank you, Thank you

:bellyroll::bellyroll::bellyroll: That is hilarious. What is that old saying....The truth is stranger than fiction. When I tell people that in the 70s my friend's stepfather did the same thing (EXCEPT that at that point he was between 160,000 and 170,000 miles on a big mid-1960s Chrysler...he felt that it was just repair places trying to drum up business, rather than needed maintenance), people don't believe me! I lost touch with my friend while his stepdad still had the car, so I don't know the story of the car beyond that point.
