Got in another accident Tuesday going to work. Pictures later. Spun out going 15-20 mph in a snowstorm and hit the guardrail in a left curve. $2000 worth. This is my second accident in two years after none since 1974.

Grrr!

Scary shit when it happens. $2K sounds like you only experienced minor damage.

So sorry to hear about this. I hope you feel better soon. I agree with Wee Yari, 2k isn't too bad. Shouldn't take more than a week to fix. My recent rear-ender cost the other person's insurance company about $1100 plus the rental. Years ago, when my best friend's parents moved from California to New Jersey, the same thing happened to his little sister on a curve....right after she got her license. Scary stuff when it happens to even an experienced driver like you. She was driving their new VW wagon..... She was okay, but she hit a tree, and the VW was totaled. No rental coverage on your policy to aid with your round trip to work and back?

^^^^^ We are on the same page. I read 'all season tires' and thought....those aren't snow tires.

To encourage you to chuckle a bit to help distract you from the discomfort....I hope the dented rim (previous thread) was already off the car before the accident .

Got home OK but hardly remember it. Here is a picture. Advil seems to help as does some four year old lidocaine patches. The dented rim I did a week ago!

Ouch for you and your Yaris :frown:. Sorry for my poor attempt (post 14) to make you chuckle a bit. I really was trying to help you feel a bit better......hope you do soon  .

I can vouch for the snow tires, I have General Altimax Arctics on mine, as you all heard we got blasted Thursday night (Rained First), my wife got called into work after I left with the 4WD...she had no issues and there were cars in the ditch everywhere!

You wont be sorry!

Would rotating the bent rim to the rear axle be 'better for the front' of your Yaris, or is the only issue re that at the point where the tire mounts to the rim (and not any other parts)? Just curious re any future issue I may encounter.

Good to read that you are OK.

why?
03-09-2014, 07:14 PM
dude that stinks. Good to hear you walked away.

The Yaris can do some screwy things in the wet and snow. I spun mine a couple months ago going maybe 30 mph at the end of an off ramp, where the road met the ramp there was a nice little bump, and that is all it took to set the rear wheels free. I didn't actually hit anything, just had a few massive pendulum turns staring at a bunch of trees before it did a 360 and stopped.

Sorry, but snow tires are a gigantic waste of money unless you drive in snow constantly. Otherwise they don't last very long, are expensive, and require you to pay to have them mounted every year, or to have an extra set of rims lying around for them.

My car is horrid in the snow, and I am not some super duper driver, but for the 6 times a year I see snow, I can't possibly think buying snow tires is better than slowing down and taking my time.
