Need serious Tire and Rim help

I'm gonna order some 17.5 inch rims, the dealer suggested 215/35/17, this is for my silver sedan, and I will not be lowering it. What is the best size tire that won't rub and that I can get the best mix of looks and practicality for this size rim? I won't be racing this car, I actually drive it like a grandma. Its just the steel 15 inchers are fugly.... I'm totally clueless in regards to tires and rims so please chime in with some pictures to show me the differences between 35's 40's and the like.

you dealer is wrong 215/40r17 is the correct size to keep the over all diameter correct

Why not a 205/45/17, more profile will help it ride a little better. Wont rub, and is pretty close to stock

too tall depending on the offset he goes with, and if it will be lowered, it will rub

I have 17x7.5 with no rub on normal driving only time I find rub is on large road bumps.

Honestly this needs to be moved to the tired section.

it is not so much the wheel width, it hs more to do with the size of tire and the offset of the wheel that determines if it will rub or not
