Hey guys? I'm planning to get a set of 17's. I was planning to go 17x7.5 with a 42 offset. Just want to see if this will rub or even clear? I'm planning to go with a 205/40/17 tire. Will this combo clear or rub? Can I go any wider? Any insight on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I have 205/40/17 with 7.0 inch wide wheels. Don't go wider than this without wider tires as well. Get 215/40/17 if you want a 7.5 inch wide wheels. Also 7.5 is the widest you should go. 42 offset is good, so is 38 or 40mm.

I read somewhere on the web in the last week that TRD recommends...

17x7 wheels

For the tire, I can't remember for sure but it was some combination of 205-215/40-45

Educate me gents!!! What does the offset do? Push the wheels tires out....or does in let the wheels "sit" in the wheel well?

I guess Im saying does the offset push the wheel to outside or the inside?

More offset means your wheels will be pulled inward. Offset is the distance measured from the center of the wheel to the hub mounting surface.

I think 215/40/17 is recommended, but I have 205/40/17 and they work just fine. No rubbing.

I have 205 45 17 on 17 7'5 and no rub also...

so 205 is wider than 215?

7.5" rims with 215 tires here, no rub. But, 215 looks a bit stretched, 225 or 235 may have been better.
