View Full Version : Upgrading Speakers, Completely Lost

I've tried combing through these forum posts but for the most part, the terms and acronyms are tough to sift through and I'm not sure what would suit my needs.

I drive a 2011 4 door sedan with the stock head unit and speakers and normally listen through a bluetooth dongle plugged into the aux port.

I would like to install new speakers for all 4 doors and for the ones sitting behind the headrests of the back seat but I don't know which aftermarket speakers would be best for me.

I'd like to keep costs down, but beyond that I don't have any super high powered needs. I just want louder, crisper music than the current speakers offer. Bass isn't super important to me, but a little would be nice.

Thanks for all your help!

PS:
Things I'm not sure of:
Do I need an amp or could I wire the new speakers straight in the place of the old ones?
What size are the speakers behind the rear seats headrest? I'm pretty sure the other speakers are 6.5"

I would give you pointers but my speakers are not even made anymore. I love them and will be sucking wind when they do kick the bucket. That being said I have not heard that the deck speakers on the 2011 would be different than the 07 which is what I have. iirc I used an install adapter, but I do have 6"x9", not circular drivers. Hope that helps a little. I picked up a Pioneer FH-X700 double DIN deck for my daughter. Seems like a really great deck for only 150 bucks. It has so many ways to consume content it is nuts especially at the price point. I bring this up because for the 150 at Sonic it includes install hardware so it gets you away from the BT adapter and of course also gives you phone functionality. Do you have the double DIN deck or the integrated deck?

Since you aren't necessarily looking for big power the built in amp could suit your needs nicely if you pick the right speakers.

This is my deck so I'm not even sure how I would go about upgrading it.
That and the cost is the only reason I would want to stay away from upgrading the deck and I don't mind the bluetooth dongle that much.

I also double checked and have 6.5 speakers in the door and 6x9 speakers behind the back headrests

Coaxial vs component. Google it.

Which do you want ? (6.5inch front doors)

Coaxial for simplicity I think.

No definite budget, just looking for a good price/performance ratio.

Man I never recommend this, but go see if best buy has something on Clearance or open box. I just picked tht Pioneer deck listed above for 100 bucks.

See if they have some coaxials. No matter what you get they'll be underpowered by your deck. They may sound good to you. Idk your preferences. if you like them then you're done. Unless your rear speakers are poppin or cracklin. Leave them alone.

If you add an amp it would be louder and clearer.
You'd have to install it yourself to keep costs down.

I can sit here and list speakers all day long. But the RMS is going to be 75 -100watts rms. Your deck puts out 10 watts RMS maybe 12 if lightning struck your deck.

Thanks for the recommendation at least. I see you're in South Texas. I'm out in Lubbock but in Dallas until Saturday and I'll be sure to check that out.

I'm fairly handy and think I'll be able to install an amp along with decent coaxial speakers.
Any specifications I should look for in an entry level amp? I suppose that would depend on the speakers I end up picking up?

Yep I have the perfect amp. Lemme see if its in stock.

The issue I see is a LOC (Line output converter). See if best buy sells a harness to give you some speaker connections to connect it so you don't have to splice wires.

Okay i looked like hell for the amp i have...it's no longer in stock. which is a bummer cause i wanted 2 more like it.

Anyways i found a decent deal on an amp and speakers. I know you said you'd rather do Coaxials but this is a hell of a deal on mid level equipment.

Speakers and amp $109.99
Amp kit - $27.95 http://www.audiosavings.com/products/8-GaugeAmpkit/Cadence-WK82-8-Gauge-4-Channel-Complete-Car-Amp-Installation-Wire-Kit,-%282%29-RCAs/WK82.aspx
Loc- $14.95 http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Line-Out-Converter/Quantum-Audio-QHLC1-HI-LO-Converter-RCA-Pre-Amp---Line-Output/QHLC1.aspx
Recommended to help with the signal...and give you more control over how loud the system will be .
Equalizer - $30.78 http://www.ebay.com/itm/POWER-ACOUSTIK-PWM-16-5-Band-Parametric-Car-Audio-Amplifier-Equalizer-EQ-PWM16-/390793555791

Total - 183.67

If your budget allows it that amp can push some 6x9's as well

damn.. why does the amp come with the speakers.. I already have PrecisionPower speakers (the now discountinued rebranded A/D/S speakers).. I am debating wether i should reinstall my Precision Power A600/4, since it is pretty much taking over my trunk space... But we are talking about complete difference class of amps though..

I was suprised too. It's basically them blowing the speakers out. Overstocked I guess.

And the amp I have is a class D as well. But it was discontinued.

How do you like the speakers btw. I've heard good things about many of there products.

ion series will fit under passenger seat.

Actually, the S.2.65C are less than 50$ shipped on ebay.

I had the A/D/S 345CS before, but the guy who sold it to me and installed them for me put a screw drive though (shit happens no matter how careful you are), so i got the PPI 365CS

I'm loving them.

You will also need to change the console plate to the double DIN one since you have the integrated deck. I had to do the same. I don't have the P/N readily available, but it runs around 70 bucks iirc. Then of course depending on the deck you choose, Double or Single you will either not have an additional cubby or you will. This reminds me I really need to order a new install kit as the plastic brackets on mine broke on both sides now  I kid you not I have no clue how they did. Must be the massive 220hp/210tq I am putting out

I've got four of these in like new condition. I'd ship them to you for $97.

Had them in my Yaris, till I went nuts and installed some Morel separates.
