Coming up on my first real B-spec race weekend.
The car is fully prepared, all the weights are in and its finally 100% ready to go.

I'm just going to leave this picture as a teaser for the upcoming weekend.

Thanks just finished the first race, and while the results aren't promising I do at least have a starting point.
I had a nice little battle with an ITA RX7 and I caught him going into T3 but he eventually muscled me going into T8 and I wasn't able to catch up with him after that. Ran a 1:50.2 at WSIR on street tires and with the speed limiter in place, which is still quite a ways from the 1:44 lap record, but I'm starting to get a good idea on what the car is capable of and I don't think its as bad as I initially thought.

I'll post a full review later, but the car performed flawlessly this weekend. I did manage to get close to the track record of 1:44 with a 1:47. I was giving up lots of time in T2 and T9, I'm sure if I worked at it a bit more I could have been right on the track record.

Here is my 1:47 qualifying run.

That is a long video... Which lap is the good one? We have got to find a way past that rev limiter for you.

Lap 2 is the fast lap. The one where I go through T9 at 85-90ish mph. All of .7 I got from that lap compared to the rest was all gained in that one corner. If I had a complete good lap data says I could have been in the 1:46.6 range, if I was a bit more aggressive with T2 and T9 I probably could have been nudging the 1:44 lap record.

The only thing I really didn't notice with the R1S's compared to the Rivals was that I didn't get any under or oversteer, I was really conscious that I could ruin my new tires so I kept the car below my ability.

Pretty good overall, but you are leaving time in three spaces that I see. You had Turn 1 and the Balcony combo wired. The car looked really good in those turns.

Turn 2 should have been flat out on entry. Stop lifting. You scrub so much speed in that turn due to the hill that you can enter it hot and still stay on line.

Turn 5 on the exit and setting up for Turn 6. You are not in a powerful RWD car, so stop using that line. Drive the car all the way to the edge of the track at the exit of 5 and keep it there for 6, that will let you carry more speed all the way to 9.

Turn 9 you are turning in early. Keep the car to the outside longer, you will be able to carry your speed from Turn 5 longer. The only time you want to be on the inside is near the apex - marked by the gap in the curb for the drain, usually has a cone on it.

I had a blast this weekend, its funny how small changes result in big changes of how the car feels.

Yeah I was being a big wimp in T9, which is kinda funny because turning in early results in less runoff area and makes the turn way more unsafe than it would be if you turned in late. It was something I kept having a hard time with on several turns.

Yeah T5 lets just say I kept running that line by memory :)

I kept kicking myself on T2, I could have gone in flatout but couldn't muster up the courage.

Turn 9 sucks... Turn in to late and you are in the dirt, turn in to early and you are in the dirt. Cant win.

LOL probably, haven't cracked the engine open to find out for sure, but I'm pretty sure I dropped a valve. Luckily I still have a spare motor, but I'm hoping I can salvage this block but I'll find out for sure when I open it up.

Coming onto the front straight I went for 3rd and managed to grab 1st, didn't notice any issues so I kept on it, 2 laps later I got a blinking CEL and the motor cut.

I'll post the video later.

On the good news I managed to get some hardware this weekend

Yeah my guess is the motor hit 9500 rpm. I was more surprised it I managed to get 2 laps after it happened with no loss of power...at least till it died.

I'm not sure much is going to be salvageable from this motor. I'll be replacing it this weekend with the old engine, hopefully I can get some more answers as to what happened.

The result of 11k miss shift. Nothing is salvageable on this engine.

Wadded it up in the first practice session. There were a lot of wrecked cars during the weekend, and it seems pretty clear that if you get it wrong a MRLS it is not going to be a small incident.

hahaha yeah I was eyeballing the camera alignment when I was getting belted up, kinda surprised I actually got it that close.

Don't really want to do another motor swap but it really could have used an extra 5 hp it was such a dog.

Good point, but hey I'm am getting pretty good at swapping these motors out. Have it down to about 6 hours now.

Did some tweaking to the rear suspension, got the toe as close to 0 as I could and tweaked the rear camber a bit. The rear felt very planted and all the high speed stability issues I was having at Bwillow didn't seem to show up. Although I was still 2.5s off the lap record, I did manage to beat all of the previous times Honda set there last year by at least half a second so I'm pretty proud of myself for that.

Finished up my last runoffs qualifying race this weekend  and I'm officially going to the runoffs.

The last runoff qualifying race was this weekend at the newly repaved ButtonWillow Raceway, its a pretty interesting and fun track, but with this weekends temps soaring well into the 100+ degrees it made driving pretty tricky.

First race on Sat I manage to set a lap record at ButtonWillow even though I was stuck behind a much slower car. I figure if there wasn't any traffic I could have knocked another second or two off the lap time. All in All I'm pretty happy with myself for my Sat result.
https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/10639410_739001659504113_3491082486998286324_n.jpg ?oh=fa1310bf2c3e21acb40de9fddb8aede5&oe=54CDA3C6

On Sunday I decided to switch things up and ran with the big boys in H Production in a horribly underprepped and overweight BSpec car. The inspectors were laughing pretty bad when I went up to weigh and came in almost 400lbs overweight. Even with a car not setup to run HP I managed to snatch 2nd place, but my bad qualifying time got me stuck behind a slower driver which kept me a ways off first place. One incident on track almost took me out for good but I managed to avoid the hit with little space to spare.

https://scontent-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/1932369_738600706210875_2960866174458533421_n.jpg? oh=44d9553cca3c1f1e47dcbcee1d5d6b79&oe=5486D3FB

Gotta say I couldn't be happier with how well the car performed this weekend, now all I gotta do is repeat the performance next month at the Runoffs :headbang:

^ thats part of the reason I didn't push all that hard to pass the leading Pro7 car. Once I took 2nd in HP I figured I wouldn't catchup to Cory in the CRX, so I let the driver of the Pro7 keep me out of trouble.

The end of an era... At one point we had four of these cars running around, two in H Prod trim and two in B-Spec trim, now only one survives - for the moment anyway.

The Cal Club Region of SCCA asked if the emergency crew could use one of the cars for training before it was sent to the crusher, Toyota was cool with it, and since I want those guys to be good at their job if I ever need them I hauled the #18 up to Buttonwillow on Saturday so they could cut into it.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DeGXcfy8O4U/VE3ZX_gUMZI/AAAAAAAABrU/j7RMW2H5Is4/w1373-h773-no/IMG_20141025_174033660.jpg

And they did just that. Jaws of life and a number of other specialty tools were put to the test. In some cases these items had not been used in years, and they rarely get the opportunity to hack up an actual race car under controlled conditions.

I even got to try it out, these tools have an awesome amount of power.

What is left gets sent off to the crusher now.
