Hello all,

Today I started up my beloved 2002 Yaris and the radio didn't work. Tried the tape deck and no joy either. You can hear a kind of distant high pitched noise coming from the speakers but that's all. My question is does anyone know if it's the speakers that are fecked or what might it be?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Oh btw the clock/radio display still work

Thanks!

12 Years is a long life for a radio. Most likely it is the radio and not the speakers. Do you actually still use cassette tapes?

I remember reading on another forum a year or so ago that long term use of those adapters can screw a stereo up....I don't remember the forum but it was out there..

Perhaps it's time to swap one of these in..

It'll be a week or so before I can get the car to a mechanic to see what the problem is. I have no problem replacing the radio if I need to. It's just strange that the tape deck isn't working either. That's what made me think it was a speakers issue.

Thanks for all the comments.

You could buy a new deck for the price the mechanic would charge you just to look at it. Many fine radio/CD/MP3 decks under $100 bucks.
