Im thinking of cutting the PS belt on my 09 Yaris.

Besides losing PS is the car programmed to not run or something? Would the CEL go on? Anything bad happen at all? Talk me out of it if you can!

Thanks!

There is not a PS belt on your 09 - It is electric PS.

If you cut the drive belt you would lose your alternator, water pump and AC.

that said.. how about pulling the fuse of the PS motor? that would throw a PS light, and likely a CEL too.

But then, what would you gain from disabling the PS? Train your arms?

In my current decrepit state I cannot pull the fuses!

A belt driven PS would gain mpg if disconnected, no?

I dont want a CEL as NJ inspection is due April 1st. All they do is check the computer for error codes in NJ.

Nothing else.

I've been running my echo without the PS belt for years now. I can't tell if I gained any mpg but the steering feel is WAY better. I really need to remove the pump and loop the lines though. I'm still pushing around cold fluid and it's pretty hard when you aren't moving.

Nominal at best, if any at all; and since we've got electric power steering systems, it's a moot point...

There are much better/easier ways to improve MPG if so desired. I would research those before cutting anything!
