I'm a fan of backup cams, as it makes the maneuver effortless. Not too crazy about big government making yet another requirement that adds expense to cars though.
So don't expect the simplicity we enjoy in today's Yaris to continue.
Thoughts?

Never thought I needed a back-up camera.
Not a fan of TPMS either.
But, for safety on the road, I do like DRL's, rear amber turn signals, and fender turn signals... all of which I believe should be a requirement on every vehicle.

I agree. I just couldn't resist capturing those 10 words - 'Not too crazy about big government making yet another requirement' - together .

Frankly, I love back-up cameras. They aid in parking and help with seeing things when reversing. I understand people are going to not like it because it adds expense to the car, however.

I have yet to meet a human who cannot turn on their own lights.
First thing I did when I got the Yaris was take out the drl cartridge.
Backup cameras are idiotic. You can turn your head and look. Not hard. If someone is really scared they should take the time to get out of the car and walk around it to make sure nothing is there.
Nothing should be mandated, government terrorism, aka mandated garbage, is why cars cost absurd amounts of money and weigh far more than they need to, making everything cars do harder.
The only actual safety device in a car is a persons brain. No amount of electronics will save someone from themselves, and some people should be allowed to die.
Now having the color of certain lights, aka brake lights and turn signals all be the same color is just something that manufacturers need to do for common sense sake.

People in cars are doing everything in them except driving.
I remember is was funny (a LONG time ago) when you'd see a bumper sticker that said 'CAUTION: Driver Applying Make-Up' - Not anymore.
I was taught cars were weapons, guess that's not so far off, huh?
Back up cameras my a** - watch what you are doing when you are in a car. First thing I do when I head for a car in the garage is glance at each tire to make sure it's full of hot air (like me...) Be aware of your surroundings.
I don't even make a call unless I pull over into a lot or space and usually shut the car off. Then I don't have to worry about running into or OVER someone.
Why? is right, use your foking brain, not your idiot-phone...

Well, I wouldn't call them idiotic. They offer a much higher level of visibility that turning your head can't accomplish. You can literally back up and line up your bumper with a dime on the ground.
The possibility of changing conditions (a child or animal running behind you) will make you thankful of a cam.
Check out this recent Kia Optima commercial. Nicely demonstrates how you can back with precision with no effort.

Yep...the lady who rear ended me toward the end of January on the little cloverleaf/feeder road merge is an example. I just KNOW she rear ended me because she was texting and not paying attention.

How about a cell phone jammer, I could get behind something like that.

Now there's a safety feature I would endorse! You'd have to turn the ignition off to be able to use the cellphone in the car. Of course, there will always be those who will disable the device... just like those who disable the seat belt warning chime and DRL's.

I have been in several cars now with back up cams. Don't care for them unless I am hooking up a trailer or the rare time that I didn't assess my surrounding area to ensure where I am at. I don't mind that they will be mandating, but as the saying goes "you can lead a horse to water.........
