and it has big time rattles . Especially from the dash and the doors . Very hard plastic . Reminds of the XD dash . Probably the worst I've ever encountered in a car . He asked me to see how his brakes were . Seemed fine , stopped nice short distance . Those were quiet  .

I have a 2012 and mine rattles a lot, too, especially from the dash areas. (It's much more pronounced in cold weather.) I've never had a subcompact before, so I at first suspected that all/most low-budget cars rattled a lot. I've gotten used to it now that I've had the car about 20 months

18.5k miles and rattles galore since shortly after purchasing.
From the dash moveable air ducts and somewhere else up under there.
From the doors, it sounds like a mechanism rattling against the inner panel but can't be stopped by locking-unlocking or tension applied to the opener or by using the window opener.
From the hatch, maybe the lock clasp rattling against the striker.
From the plastic engine cover at idle.
They all differ depending upon inside and outside temperature.
And a gearbox whine that is becoming worse with time passing.
No complaints about fuel consumption, exceeds all Toyota published claims, pretty happy with that.
Stopping all the rattles would only let the road noise drive me crazy, consider it character.
I wonder what the rattle complaint rate to Toyota service writers is?

Just shy of a year & 6,500 miles, no creaks or rattles here...we'll see how it goes as it gets more miles on it. They can be a pain in the ear. I DO know it can get pretty challenging to tear a car apart trying to fix them.

9300 miles. no rattles. however, cheap cars with lots of plastic will eventually have a rattle (or more). I have yet to ride in a sub $20k car with 50,000+ miles that didn't have some noise or another emanating from the dash. some are just unavoidable and unfixable because it is just the noise lots of plastic pieces fit together will make. some are fixable as they are either something completely loose or something that has come partially apart.

2012, 20,000 miles...up until now been rattle-free. This week a squeak started coming out of the dash; but not constantly. Might have been changing weather - or a harbinger.
The dash on the Gen3 seems bigger and more pronounced than the center-pod dash. Might be why.

Are the cars that have rattles lowered?
My '07 has lots of rattles, but it's lowered and has exhaust, so it's bound to develop some noises.
