Silly question, but one I don't know the answer to. Mine are just in the hatch but clank around and annoy the *&%# out of me. Where are they stored from factory?

Thanks,
Cory

IIRC, mine were just stuck in the little black bin on the right side of the spare. I got a whole bunch of shop towels and wrapped the tools to keep them from clanking around and I figured, if I am out changing the tire, I will need rags afterwards, anyway.

well yes duh! If not, how are you supposed to change your spare tire?

and btw, i thought the tools are supposed to be in the bins under the floor, around the spare tire?

In the storage bins under the deck lid beside the spare tire. Mine came in a black vinyl bag and have never made any noise.

What tools do you get with a US delivered Yaris? My Australian delivered '07 Sedan came with only a wheel nut spanner and a towing hook in a vinyl bag, and is located next to the spare wheel in a pocket under the boot floor. My jack is under the front passenger seat. This is on the left side, bearing in mind I have a right hand drive car. Maybe your jacks are under the right seat....

Thanks for the info guys. Mine were in a bag in the right side bin when I got the car and I figured that was where they were supposed to be. I guess my issue stems from the fact that I am a mechanic and hear more car-related noises than most. I suppose it probably also has something to do with the fact that I drive around on DOT race slicks...
I'll have to see if I can tie them down somewhere.

Aussie, our jacks are under the LF seat as well. Tire tools are: Lug wrench, tow hook, and winding tool for jack (located in the RR bin beside the spare tire).

Cheers.

You have reminded me that I don't recall seeing the winder handle for the jack. I will go out in the morning and check where it is.
I carry additional tools is a canvas tool roll that fits nicely in centre of the spare wheel. I have a full size steel spare that is fitted in its receptacle upside down. I find a canvas tool roll keeps the tools nice and under control and they don't rattle or move around.
I also carry a long socket handle and a 19mm socket as there seems to be a tame gorilla working where I get my car serviced and the wheel nuts are often very tight to loosen after a service. First thing I do when I get the car home is crack the wheel nuts and retorque them to spec. I have alloy wheels.

In case someone else is interested, a couple tie-straps will hold the tools nicely (AND QUIETLY!) in the spare tire, while still allowing you to remove the spare for autoX ;) . Will have to break the tie-straps to use the tools, but you could use rope or a bungee instead.

Cheers.

Your idea of a tool kit is merely a wrench to take the wheel nuts off?
I'll check to see if there is anything else like perhaps a multi head screwdriver,a pair of pliers.

The wrench and the front tow hitch is what supposed to be in the vinyl bag.

The wrench and the front tow hitch is what supposed to be in the vinyl bag.

I have a two foot length of 1 1/2 inch PVC water pipe to use on the wrench as a cheater.

When I drove from NJ to AK and back in 2011 I also brought a set of jumper cables, tire plug kit, battery driven air compressor, 20 foot towing cable (plastic) and assorted wrenches and sockets with 3/8 ratchet and extensions.

My only problem happened in the parking lot of Wal-Mart's in Fairbanks. I checked to air filter and when I put it back the cables going to the housing got pinched, triggering an error code and putting the car in limp home mode. Im like "Well its been 5200 miles getting here...now its 5200 miles home!"

The CEL was flashing and the car would only go 5 mph! I KNEW what happened and even so, was in a mild panic as I redid the AF housing, found the pinched wires, and set everything right.
