Okay, I'm a little puzzled. I've called to make an appointment for my Yaris this weekend. I was under the assumption that a tune up included belts and wiring. But now I'm being told something completely different. Is this normal to occur?

the yaris does not have a distributor.. so no wires to change.

drive belt (alternator & AC are 1 belt) are not due, if it doesn't show signs of cracking (rubber dry rot)
spark plugs on the 1nz are usually iridium plugs and can last like 80k miles.

Thanks. Because I became sfrustrated quickly. Felt like I was getting the run around. I'm at 102,000 miles now. And I was told that my shock absorber is missing from my glove box.

LOL the glove box have a strut kinda thing that makes it open up slowly.. instead of slamming down.

This tends to be lost, or forgotten to be put back when changing the air filter. It doesn't really matter if you don't mind how your glove box don't open like an Audi.

We don't go in for a "tune up" like we used to back in the 80's. If you've kept up with the maintenance schedule... There is nothing much to get checked.

:thumbsup: I wasn't thinking outside the box :bonk:. I wonder what Toyota's official name is for that part :biggrin: ?....and for that matter the 'shock absorbers' for the hatch :biggrin: ?

According to the maintenance schedule what is needed at 100,000 miles is
1. Change coolant
2. Change engine oil and filter
3. Reset oil replacement reminder
4. Rotate tires
5. Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs

Oh okay. Thanks. I called Toyota about it and I was told that it's covered under my warranty. So hopefully, it will get fixed or replaced under that.

Yes, there's no such thing as a "tune up" anymore, on any car.

Only things to consider is changing the serpentine belt if you haven't yet. A coolant flush. As for the spark plugs, I changed mine somewhere around $120K and they came out with little wear. Up to you how preventative you want to be.

I do minimal maintenance because really that's all the Yaris needs. 163,000 miles and I've only done the above 3 items + tires and one battery change. Oil changes every 5K. Only one repair being a rear wheel bearing.

Everything else is original, even brakes and struts.
