... looks like I'm on the hook for these two items at $299 each if I want to buy this Yaris L tomorrow. I was told all cars get them automatically before they hit the lot.

They said the Protection Package is something that protects the edges of the wheel wells and door edges, that's all. The Theft Protection Program is that window etching of "whatever it is" that gets etched on each window, that's all.

So what do you guys think??:iono:

Don't do it if your insurance don't offer rebates for the thief protection.

What we have in Canada is by Sherlock and they have a set amount of parts that need to be etched (a lot) which comes with a certificate with a unique serial number and insurance companies recognize it and gives extra rebates.

It depends on how hard it is to find new 5-speed manuals within a distance that is acceptable to you. If there are other alternatives, tell them no and if they don't give in....start to leave. I took the armrest and floor mats I didn't want because I knew there were only 11 5-speed manuals in all the states in the Northeast + California, and that at least one of them was still out on a ship (even though the dealer in Cambridge, MA listed the car as being there in inventory ).

Yep. An oft seen item on the dealer affixed 'pac sticker'.

that is BS. I almost bought a yaris in the same IL region. that dealer might add them. it is not mandatory for the region as far as I know. that is $600 of absolute waste...money out of your pocket with nothing tangible in return.

there are several 5 speed L models in the state:

I didn't mean oft seen for that region, I meant oft seen when there is a 'pac sticker' (anywhere in the U.S.). I don't like it when a dealer makes the decision to affix a 'pac sticker'. I think it shows arrogance and disrespect for the customer's intelligence. Some dealers can get pretty cavalier in this regard. Over the years, on very popular and hard to find models, I've seen 'pac stickers' that didn't even attempt to hide the BS......adding an amount and just calling it "Added Mark-Up".

I still feel I got a pretty good deal on it, even with the add ons. It was $14,302 from AutoNation just like #9 in that list of 10 in the link. #10 is also from AutoNation only it's white w/out the floor mats.

When I called them to inquire more about it they said they could sell it for $13,726 (includes destination charge) and I really liked that price. So the night before I was talking to the internet sales lady there and asked for the "out the door" price. That's when I got the email that had those two add ons tacked on.

So with the two add ons it brought the price back up to $14,324, close enough to what initially got me to check them out to begin with. The Protection Package is actually kind of nice, but not like $299 worth of nice, hehe. To get any lower than that I feel I'd have to wait for some Toyota incentives which I've read are far and few between.

 Thanks for starting this thread (and thanks to roxy1 for the link) as I otherwise would not have known how roxy1 knew a while back that there were only 18 manual transmission SEs in the entire United States. Now I know, re the link. BTW, there are now 15 Manual transmission 2014 SEs in the whole country and 90 other new manual transmission Yari in the whole country (almost all 2014s, but a few 2013s).
