Reading the owner's manual, it says 1 litre of oil loss per 1000 kilometres is acceptable. So, if my car burns a quart of oil every 600 miles, toyota says that is within specs?????? :iono:  :eyebulge:  :bs:

your oil filter must not be on tight or you have two oil gaskets on there or you have some debris and the gasket is not sealing properly.

Yes, thats' correct. Every engine burns at least some oil. It's inevitable not to being that it coats the cylinder walls, valve stems, etc. One reason it is important to change your oil on time is that your engine always burns some oil, however the oil level remains the same because it becomes diluted with gasoline, moisture, etc. Don't worry, your car will probably never burn anywhere near that amount.

Sorry, Go4th, didn't mean to sound like mine is using, just that if it were using that much and toyota said it was within spec, I'd be in jail for going off on 'em. Back in the old days, when cars lasting 100,000 miles were long lived ('50s and '60s), a quart in 3000 miles between oil changes was usually considered to be the maximum acceptable use.
And Peter, the dealer better hope it never does, he's staking his gonads on it.:eyebulge:

I'm really surprised they would state that. Yes, the chances of it happening are terribly small, but anyone with common sense knows that's an absurd amount to be burning. You're car would be puffing smoke like crazy at that rate (I know, I drove an S-10 Blazer that burned through a quart a month, and I could fog an intersection). For Toyota to claim that's "within spec" is moronic.
