On the driver's side there is some useless storage space on the 2012+ editions.

If I put phones, cards or small coins in it, they'll slide out during acceleration. Or worse, get blown away when the window is open.
I needed a phone holder though, and I don't want to waste one of the air outlets to clip a phone holder on it.

So I want to use the storage space to hold my phone. I still had an old pro clip holder from my previous car so I will attach that into this storage space.
I took out the storage unit.

Put an plastic bag inside the storage unit and wrapped my pro clip holder

Position the holder in the storage unit

Fill it up with polyurethane foam

After letting it harden overnight, I cut the extra foam away

Put on some putty to smooth the surface. (and sand it)

Find some hybrid-blue spray paint and put some color on it.

Finally, installed the brodit iPhone holder on it and put the unit back into the car
(this trick can be used with any cheapass universal phone holder too of course, but I already had the brodit holder with active dock for so many years and I really like it, so I want to keep using it)

Looks quite ok, but I want a deeper blue.
And I need to sand the surface again (i was out of sanding paper) and repaint it though. I might cut out the outer side of the mild and maybe put a small box in it, so it can be used as a coin holder.

Remodded it a bit. Repaint, resend and removed a part of the material to create a small coin holding place
