hb Spoiler install

Just got the hb spoiler:drinking::thumbup:.
I 3m vhb taped it hopefully it wont fly off on the highway:confused::burnrubber:

I didn't want to drill into the hatch so I used 3M VHB (Very High Bond) tape and applied it to the underside of where the spoiler contacts the hatch roof. See post #9 of this thread (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50641).

You said it's been fine for 5 years. I do a lot of highway driving will it fly off at high speed. If I do 80mph+ will the spoiler fly off?

I recently acquired one of the same. I plan on using the two recessed screw holes as well as 3M Tape. My only concern about tape alone is the liability if it happened to free itself and find its way through someone's windshield. With the 3M VHB tape though, I think the spoiler would tear apart before that tape let loose.

Hopefully my wing wont fly off. I'm just going to use the vhb tape and see what happens it holds 1 pound per square inch .

I used a combination of VHB 5952 tape and 10-24 x 5/8" well nuts to mount my spoiler. I tested the well nuts first without the tape and they provided a very strong hold. I cleaned the spoiler underside very well with denatured alcohol and then I then added the tape like how Yarisugi did. A thorough wipe down of the car's surface was next and then I reattached the spoiler with the tape. I didn't get the spoiler on perfectly on the first attempt and it took a lot of force to pull it off the car even with only a small section of tape adhereing. Once I got it on correctly, I warmed the area with a hairdryer and pushed down firmly all over to ensure the tape had bonded. Even without the well nuts, I could tell the tape was more than sufficient to hold the spoiler on. I am very certain that the car would suffer serious damage from wind/hail/etc well before the spoiler would break free. I also added a thin bead of clear RTV silicone sealer at the front edge as a bit of weather stripping to protect the tape from long term weather damage and to prevent seepage of water that could cause rust.

Yea definitely the vhb tape is holding on strong. I got it in the right position the first try. What I did was use painters tape to hold it in position.Then I flipped the spoiler upside down on the roof and removed the adhesive protection, then just flipped the spoiler back into position and it layed straight on. But since I removed the adhesive tape cover it moved a couple millis out of place to where the backside of the spoiler did not adhere to the hatch. So as of right now the spoiler is only attached by the top portion. Still holding very strong but i need to fill in the gap to possibly make it more sturdy.

Which spoiler is that? Still haven't made up my mind on which to buy for my 09. Tons of ebay vendors just no clue who to trust..

I think this is the best spoiler available:w00t: The way you can tell a dealer is legit on ebay is you look for the top rated plus tag and also you look at their ratings, # of items sold and price obviously. The cheaper the price means they probably sell more of that product. I think most of those big dealers are legit. When I bought my spoiler I got it for $62. But the next day I checked and I found one for $52 which made me kinda mad I lost $10, but whatever. I looked at the dealers and they were both from LA area an the only difference is the price. So look for the cheapest one that you can get. Cheapest I saw was $52 dolla. This one I found is $58 good luck if you get it post the finished result.
