Brake Upgrades

With thoughts to run the Yaris in lapping days, what are the suggested brake upgrades for the car? (without going to a big brake kit)

I can second that from what I have seen and experienced too. Going crossdrilled, etc on the rotors doesn't really gain you anything and unless mistaken actually will just cause your pads to wear out quicker even if you go with a higher end composition on the pads.

I'm on OEM brakes, the best upgrade to my brakes was my suspension and tires. The car will throw you through the windshield it stops so quick. I would imagine changing to a pad designed for track (hawk, etc...) would be beneficial in withstanding excessive heat.

They provide a slightly better pedal feel, but wont do anything to help reduce brake fade or improve stopping power - the pads, ABS, and your tires are typically the limiting factors when it comes to stopping. They are a nice add on after you have upgraded your pads, just for piece of mind. Go with a set that have a coating over the SS, it helps prevent road grime and grit from penetrating the braiding and damaging the core.

Sports Pads and possibly high temp fluid.

When I ran my xB once on completely stock brakes and it did well. I had to replace the pads shortly afterwards tho!

My tercel track day car has been thru several evolutions of brake upgrades as I have gotten faster. Currently have Mazda protege rotors, corolla calipers with Porterfield race pads, super blue fluid, and brake ducting. About to take the plunge into Wilwood land soon...

What is the 60-0 stopping distance with your current setup? How much distance are you looking to shave off that number?

Think the oem pads are pretty well worn so want to gettem swapped in time. The event is May 24.

How do the oem rotors hold up for events? Hear of some cars that can chew up a set of rotors with a single track day..

Hawk pads.
Ford or ATE fluid is very good for occasional track use.
I can run for more than a year on a set of rotors and pads. I have used OE rotors, Centric and whatever Pep-Boys has in stock, no noticeably difference in life.

This. I was very happy with these when I was starting out.

Really good street performance and characteristics while still handling track heat. I had 2 weekends and 20k~ on them before I changed my set up and they still had 1/2 their life left.

Got the pads ordered, looked up a diy on pad replacement, looks like it will only take an hour to do both sides. Now to see if I can find a pressure bleeder anywhere local in time.

Um you shouldn't need to bleed your brakes for just the pads unless you are being proactive and flushing the system.
