So I don't really know much about cars and I have no idea how this happened or what is happening. Could you guys please let me know what this is and how I might be able to fix it?

Any range on price?

Thanks for the help!

what the f is that?... did you spill (or someone else) some chemicals on it?

Looks like your clear coat is lifting.
Maybe Toyota's fault or caused by the environment.
Are you near a chemical plant or similar?
It would most likely require a new paint job.
Good luck.

If you do a search for "clear coat peeling" you will see quite a few threads about this issue. It seems to be only or most prevalent with Blazing Blue Yaris and prior to yours, it seemed to be limited to 07 and 08.

Those who have had the issue have not seemed to get very positives from Toyota as far as repairing it as a warranty item.

Repair involves sanding off the clear coat and reapplying it (which likely means well over $1000.

Where do you live?

Hey guys,

Thanks for letting me know what's going on. I live in Miami, Florida. I've never put any sort of chemical on the car or anything.

I was hoping that the repair might be less that $1000 though :/

How much is a new paint job?

A quality paint job would start around $7k.

It is interesting that all of the Yaris that I have seen with the peeling issue thus far have either been from the Southern US or from Australia.

Clear coat.

You will need to repaint the entire car, cause if you paint the roof by time other parts will get the same. Just paint it completely.

So therefore it is a heat/humidity related issue

Wow that sucks! If it's just the roof you may be able to get by with just painting it black from a local shop. It looks pretty good and then you won't have to worry about matching the blue as paint fades over time and makes it harder to match, hence painting the whole car. I know caliyaris on his old yaris had the roof painted black (on white) and I have the meteorite metallic and have my roof black now. I didn't have the peeling clearcoat issue, was just getting my car custom painted and wanted the look for future airbrushing on the roof.

Just an idea. I was quoted $600 for just doing the roof in black.

Yea, it's not jut the roof. The roof is the worst of if. Some of it has started on the hood of the car but it's not that noticeable.... ugh, this shit sucks.

a cheap solution is plastidip the car.

OR, sand it smooth, have it wrapped black. $300-400 and done.

why?

yea, plastidip will at least cover it up and protect the roof. plus you can do crazy things for cheap and just peel it off if you hate it. https://www.dipyourcar.com/home.php?gclid=CNr2pdrMu74CFVJnOgod1nsAYw

plastidip is not a bad idea in this circumstance.

Sand the whole car? Wouldn't that mess up the paint? Could I just take off the clear coat and have that reapplied? If that's what you meant, I like that Idea.

That would, but vinyl wrapping requires a clean surface. Peeling clear coat is not a clean surface. LOL
