Very Strange Intake in a Yaris

:iono: Some weeks ago I saw this hole next to the drivers headlight and below the edge of the hood the and since then I have been looking for it Madly, I don't think is a full Ram Air but some sort of elbow to redirect airflow to the Original Air Box Filter, thus creating positive air pressure like a Ram Air (Duh !) but I have not been able to find anyone, anywhere that makes it, Please any help here will be very appreciated... I hope the photo Helps...

That is just a hole with a trim ring to bring cold air in to the intake behind it. That looks like one that was custom machined by a person from Germany.

A hole looks horrendous. The C One bumper with the slot looks way better.

You can either cut the slot / hole yourself or buy a bumper that already has it. Its much cheaper to just cut the hole yourself (measure twice cut once).

They're called bellmouths and come in a wide variety of diameters. There's tons of them on ebay.

I noticed last night there is a spot in the radiator filler panel on the passenger side that looks to be some sort of factory ram air. Just need to cut it out and duct it to the air box

Seen this done before. Not machined, just a hole saw was used and a rubber grommet modified to fit. Nice clean job however.

Thank you tooter, (and all others) Just as you said I look it up on EBay and found exactly what I was looking for 3" Bellmouth and a 45° 3" to 3" Silicone Pipe. The idea is to create a semi ram air, so the two pipes will be apart about less than an inch (just in case water gets in and floods the stock airbox) so air will pass cold and unobstructedI'm using a TRD Filter so believe that will work fine.

The stock air box has a small drain hole in the bottom to let out water. :wink:

I run a large air filter that has a bell mouth velocity stack built into the bottom of it.

There was a length limitation in the engine bay so I added a small aluminum sleeve to the base of the bell mouth. The filter is big enough for a V8 engine, so protruding the bell mouth a little farther into the filter didn't matter.

It can easily get more if you do a full cold air intake system. Not a lot alone, but with everything else it will add extra.

I will say, using the C-One bumper. The slot that you guys are talking about is covered by the upper radiator support bracket. You would also have to cut out a slot in that bracket also to actually get any benefit if you are using a short ram intake box style...

I use a Cold Air Intake that come down just below the headlight assembly. So the left front bumper vent allows more air to flow to the area. and will work even better if you still have the fender liner intact.

You know, (based on my memory) I was going to post that those openings wouldn't help much because they are right in front of the radiator support. BUT, last night after changing my oil, I was snooping around in that area and the blud car's intake is actually in a pretty good location; it is right above the radiator support and pointed directly at the air box snorkle. The Urban Racer car's intake, OTOH, does look better but that one is pointed right at the radiator.

So....

These pictures got me thinking, a foglight bezel from a 1999-2000 Miata might fit and would finish off the hole nicely, and would actually look and act like a scoop. Unfortunately, they're kind of hard to find...

But I like it. Another future project...

This is even more strange to me, makes the other hole location look good. But it works for airflow directly below the headlight.

Agreed and disagree. To be honest, I think that looks a bit better... More functional with CAI systems like you said.. I like that look better though, but thats just a personal opinion.

i was gonna actually do this because there is a removable rubber grommet in my radiator frame. i know it will only add a couple horse power, but the yaris needs all the speed it can get, lol
