turbocharging a yaris...a theoretical question

I have read a few turbo-ing a car guides, saw a few youtube videos and all share the same thing. they all say you should get some kinda new aftermarket ECU, since the air entering will be different and the engine will run lean.

My question is, cant the MAF sensor detect the change in air flow? Cant the stock ECU adjust the fuel injected accordingly?

It does not have enough range to cover boost. They map the engine to handle all intended conditions. They are not going to waste time developing tunes to handle boost for a handful of enthusiasts

That being said...my tercel handled 3.5lbs of boost perfectly with no tuning.

You need a return style fuel system and a 1:1 fuel pressure regulator. That will help you a lot when the boost comes on.

so I downloaded the online install guide and the thing has about 40 components and there is no ECU....the only electrical thing I can see is a relay, some harnesses and connectors. if that thing is adding 7PSI with out any chip tuning, wouldn't it be possible to achieve this with a turbo for a far less price?

Turbo's are not cheap either and a lot of DIY fabrication. Plus on these engines, I wouldn't go more then 6psi boost with the stock internals if you want to drive daily and last. 8psi max on stock engine and even then the life span is shortened. Theirs a sticky section here about it I believe.

Unless I'm wrong, someone can correct me.

Personally, I wouldn't boost mine unless I built up an engine for it. With the amount to invest in a good Turbo, mind as well go all the way and do it right.

The Blitz kit includes a Blitz Fuel Controller, which is a very small piggy-back fuel controller. It is designed to be used with bone-stock Yaris and is not adjustable, so if one is running an intake, other than stock, additional fuel must be added beyond what the Blitz controller adds. This is most easily done by upgrading the injectors to a set from a 1.8L 1ZZ-FE.
