Is it just me, or does the Mazda 2 look almost identical to the Yaris hatchback?

I like the Mazda 2, and the two cars do actually kind of look alike. I would have seriously considered the Mazda 2 if I hadn't bought the Yaris.....

the mazda 2 automatic gearbox is sluggish, then you end up reving high once it decides to kick off.

It doesn't have this responsiveness of Toyota or Honda gearboxes.

One thing Mazda did right re the USDM Mazda 2.....offering the BASE 5-door hatch with a MANUAL transmission .

The Mazda 2 and Yaris are identical in subtle ways. There is no denying that !

You can say that about many randomly paired cars.

Give me a pair of cars that have identical identity, and we'll judge.

Starting in the 2016 MY I think they will be even more similar.

The MPG isnt as good with the M2 and it doesnt come in a 2 door. (very few people need a 4 door)

That said its a step in the right direction and Mazda builds some good cars so if Toyota keeps building Yari with faulty water pumps I might go there for my next car!

I understand the Ford KA..(Note: I was wrong. See below. Fiesta shares platform).... and the Mazda2 are all on a shared platform and all built in Mexico. And yes, a friend bought a new Mazda2 and quickly traded it on a Mazda3 because of the poor gas mileage. Luckily for me he sold me his old wheels (as he had put baby mommas on the 2)!

No relation to Yaris that I know of.

The skyactiv engine does similar mileage than the 1.5L EFI engine on the 2

He had a 2011 Mazda 2 m/t for less than 6 mos. He's a factory rep and. was getting 30-31mpg. He traded on a 2012 Mazda3 with the 2.0 SkyActiv and 6 speed. Around 40mpg. Now he's driving a 2014 Mazda6 manual and getting upper 30s..

I have never driven a Mazda2. I'm sure that their next one will be di.

I have a Mazda 2 at work. Base auto 4 speed. Fuel consumption isn't so bad. Almost like my yaris.

I'm a big fan of the Mazda2.

FYI, the Mazda2 shares a chassis with the Ford Fiesta.

I hope we don't reach a point when all paragraphs are all acronyms. Just write model year, I can type about 76 WPM, good days 95 WPM and it's no problem for me.

YodaBird

All the parts for most cars come from the same factory, including BMW etc. The engine is the only thing that makes each car unique, that is all the car company actually built, otherwise they wouldn't be a car company!

I hope we don't reach a point where people don't recognize acronyms the entire universe uses.

Oh, and literally pick any two cars, there will be things that are the same. That is just how it works.

Everyone is a broad term to use.

Not really, excluding the basics, steering wheel etc.

It's not identical, but there are similarities, if you can't see the similarities then there isn't a difference between apples and oranges either in your view.

There is nothing alike with the 2 except that they are both sub-compact hatchbacks. They both have a 4-cylinder engine, 4 wheels, seats, steering wheel and usual car parts.

Do we realize we're talking about 3-4 year old cars?

Now with the next gen of these cars, they actually will be the same car under the skin.

Yeah, the people saying the two aren't even close crack me up! Put a Yaris badge on a 2 and nobody would even notice...

I saw (parked away from other cars) what appeared to be a 2014 '2' in a grocery store parking lot the other day. The color of the '2' was very close to my Bayou Blue. I stood far enough away that I could get a good perspective (no other cars in my field of vision). I was definitely struck by the strong similarity. My viewpoint = seeing the whole driver'sw side and the whole rear end...and not a bit of the passenger side or the front.....as I walked backwards, farther and farther away. Too bad I didn't have a camera with available memory with me.
