Hi there, I'm new to owning a Japaneses car. I am into German cars, however I fell for the T-sport when it was recommended to me as a first car.

Anyway, I picked one up for £1100 2 weeks ago. A sweet nippy car, however there was one thing I released straight away. I am doing half of what the MPG is suppose to be.

I topped up £20 (half tank) - I only managed to do 120 Miles.
Second time £20 (half tank) - I managed to do 140 Miles  Improvement

Gave the car a full service
Third time £20 (half tank) - Still doing 140 Miles

My Yaris is a T-Sport 1.5 Petrol, 2003 model. Currently done 83000 miles on clock.

My friends is a 2001 Y reg, Yaris and he does £20 to 300 Miles!!! Currently done 110000 on clock.

PLEASE HELP!
[I AM AN ECO DRIVER + Tyres, etc all in good shape]

Any check engine lights? Are all maintenance up to date?

why?

So much effects gas mileage. Has the transmission fluid ever been changed?

wait a minute... OP said he topped half tank..

half tank with 130-140miles is about right for the 1.5L petrol TS.. the TS comes with a shorter final gear...

You should get about 30US MPG with your TS.. much like a Scion xB 1.5L

best is to test it completely topped up and driving it till warning light. That way, you can calculate your MPG.
I also think that your car should have the MPG meter on board...

why?

Why? The TS is sport oriented, it is normal it is geared for better acceleration, while the xB was geared like this because of the weight...

That's why Canadian echo 1.5L gets fuel consumption between the TS and 1.3L..
It's amazing how different markets gets the same thing in different configuration.

why?

I get that but does it still just have the 1.5, or does it have a bigger engine, or a turbo?

No. Same thing. According to specs, the xB gets 27/34usmpg...
