brake discs keep 'warping'

Ive got a recurring odditiy on our dear old yaris, Ive replaced the front discs and pads 3 times in the last 3 years. Starts as a mild vibration on braking then gets progressively worse with a loud tapping noise up to the point its hard to hold the steering wheel when braking hard.

All the bolts are tight, the sliders and piston have been greased and the seals are intact. Ive cleaned the hub/flange with a wire brush so the disc sits properly. Ive tried two different brands of discs/pads.

Any other suggestions of what could be causing this?

Are they fine for a bit when you replace them or do they still have the same issue even with the brand new ones?

Also, when you replace them do you "bed" the new brakes? Below is an article on why and how to do so.

Yes they are fine when new, I make sure she beds them in properly too

The practice of bedding is something I fail to fully comprehend. Surely any garage performing brake work does not bother with such measures. It would seem to me that such measures are only performed by the most diligent of gear heads.

I never bedded mines and they are still good after 4 years..

What brand discs did you put in? Also, not allowing the brakes to reach operating temperature before hard braking will easily warp the discs.

first ones I put on were pagid, then mintex, then brembo

In the old days of good ol' asbestos it wasn't really necessary, but with the modern semi-metallic pads it really is if you do a lot of hard braking. If you are always gentle with the brake pedal, then you will never really notice the build-up occur.

For the original poster, I suspect that it is either the quality of the replacement discs and pads, or just a case where you drive in such a way that you really heat them up and warp them quickly.

I would say go with Toyota rotors and pads , its all i use and have no problems at all..the aftermarket stuff is just that low quality crap also are ur rear brakes in tune ..clean and adjusted this will help in taking the load of the front .You also did not mantion ur area reason i ask is we have ppl that live on the mountain and go throught brakes like crazy here and the dirt roads etc.

yeah i agree it might be your pads. i had napa pads and OMG it warped horribly. also check if they tightened your wheel nuts to the correct spec. if its overtightened it'll affect your rotors too.

Also make sure your rears are working (frozen wheel cylinders?) causing the fronts to do all the work.
After you drive it awhile jack up the front to check for dragging brakes, sometimes that only shows up after it gets warm.

Move to Kansas. You probably won't have that problem anymore. Or let gravity do most of the braking for you.

I can attest to the Kansas part,lol Gradual, easy braking does not warp rotors, hard braking....waiting to the last minute kind of stuff does. It's excessive heat build up. Yes, quality of the products makes a big difference, but if you put in Brembo and it still did it, I'd look to rear brakes not working or driving style........

I'm pretty sure the 1.0 has smaller brakes than the 1.3 or 1.5 yaris. Maybe a brake upgrade is in order.
