Getting wheels powder coated - need cliffnotes on best way to have car on stands...

I personally don't feel comfortable leaving my car on weenie little jack stands for that long. I'd find some large pieces of wood or cinder block, pad them, and then lower the car onto them. They're much more stable than just jack stands.

Yeah that's what I was thinking - cinder blocks or like deck piers seem like a much more stable option. What would be the best placements for them under the car? I'll consult my manual when I get out to the car... just curious if there are any spots anyone would recommend?

The regular jack points will probably be the best since they're the widest apart without putting blocks under your shocks/springs

You should not use cinder blocks, as they are not designed for the psi load of a vehicle and can fail. 4 jack stands at their lowest setting would be fine if the car is on a level surface. You can slide some blocks under the car as a backup for the stands, but the stands should be supporting the load.

Jack stands are made for that purpose if positioned in the proper resting points on the car. Also they need to have proper weight rating and let's face it, the car weighs 2400lbs and one jack stand the smallest usually hold 1 ton each. I have three snow cats up on jack stands at work, they weigh in stripped down summer mode at 4.5-5 tons. Their all on jack stands till October.

I know they're designed like that. But this guy and I have similar, probably paranoid, concerns about leaving a car on stands. Scott is right, cinder blocks aren't technically rated to hold a car.

That being said I'd be okay leaving my car on a 6 x 6 wood block for a few hours.

like scott said. Cinder blocks can fail.

My buddy used wood for a long time....until one finally split, causing quite a bit of damage.

I've had one of my cars on stands for a good month, maybe more.

might sound silly but you have no way to get a hold of a set of wheels/tires to just slap on for the time needed?
