Does anybody in the US actually have a French Yaris?

I heard Toyota was supposed to be importing from France since last year, but I don't actually see any French cars for sale. They all seem to be made in Japan.

So, does anybody here actually have one that was made in France?

Too bad most parts from Japan are incompatible for the french yaris when it comes to transmission etc

I have driven a buddies rental from Enterprise. And if you go on Ebaymotors.com, there are quite a few former rental 2014 Yaris' for sale in the Virginia area. They all have between 33-36 thousand miles on them. All French-built.

I was very impressed with the one I drove that had 35 thousand rental car miles on it. Very tight and quiet.

And on Toyota's distributorship website, the French 2015 Yaris' are shipping in "now" for U.S. sales.

I just ordered the 2015 Yaris SE and understand that it is made in France. Hopefully arriving in a month or so. I'll let you know once I confirm origin of manufacture. :)

^^^^^ I wonder if Canada = shorter lead time. I was thinking about a 2015 L with manual transmission and the consensus from several dealers was 'probably November'....one of a few reasons I decided not to wait.

Yep. 'Rental Resales' on eBay were mentioned on an earlier post. Until the 2015s get here, I think those are the only French made Yari available to the general public here in the states.

:thumbsup: Love your term 'floppy and sloppy'. Conjures up an image of that 35.000 mile Fiesta :biggrin:. My 2007 Yaris doesn't feel as tight as my new one, but it still feels tighter than my friend's PT Cruiser with 156K miles...and WAY tighter than that Fiesta :biggrin:.

I live in North Carolina and my 2015 says 60% Japanese and 40% France..but finally assembly was in France...so you tell me lol

When going in to order my 2014 SE, I saw French VINS on the Yarii(sp?) on the lot at my dealership. (Canada) However, my dealer told me the SE was still manufactured in Japan, while the rest were France now. Confirmed I DO have a Japanese 2014 SE. Unsure about 2015s though.

:laugh:. From what I've heard, there were some initial quality issues (more than expected) with some of the 2015 (assembled in Mexico) Fits. Wait and see proposition re will it match the reliability of previous generation Fits. Re what some savvy members have indicated, it might.

2016 + 'Mexican Yaris'....Will the ones (most of the total, I assume) built for the North American market use the 'Yaris' name?.....or Vitz?.....Something else?

She looked it up on her computer and said I could order one now and it would be at the dealer in September. It is still going to be called a Yaris according to her. The sedans will come from Mexico and the hatchbacks will come from France.

Test drove a 5spd French built SE. The front fascia is ok but the gaping grill makes the entire car looked more raked than it is. The tail lights and rear end are a lot better than my '12. The interior is much nicer with a sturdier feeling fabric and all of the lighter colors that are smudged to hell with dirt in my '12 are replaced with darker, softer materials on the '15. Plus the iPod and aux connections are in a much more driver friendly area. No idea if the plastic on the door panels still smudges easily. Overall, I really felt that the quality was equal to or better than my Japanese built '12.

I firmly believe that if Toyota would just update the powertrain and increase the power, the Yaris would be in best many rival offerings.

I don't like the 'bottom of the bumper backup light', but I agree with you re the seats.

My 2014 Yaris L is from France. I've had it a month and I'm happy with it. The airbag warnings and manual are in English and French. I can just see this car buzzing around Paris with other little Renaults Peugeots and Citroens.

Is anyone aware of data re: reliability of the French- vs Japan-built cars? I did see on one site that the JD Power initial quality ratings looked down in 2015 compared to earlier years.

I've been looking forever for a 2012-14 model, partially because those were made in Japan, and their great reliability is one of the main reasons for getting the car in the first place. But there have been so few anywhere near me, I haven't been able to hit on one. There's a 2015 that's popped up a short road trip away and I was wondering if I should reconsider.

You can immediately identify the French made Yaris because the seat upholstery is all black rather than black and light grey. The LE model I finally purchased was made in France.

I was surprised to discover that some of the part numbers are different for French vs. Japanese models... and the prices can be drastically different for identical parts having different part numbers!

Thanks, I did notice the different upholstery. Also, I finally figured out after a lot of looking that I can tell when a manual transmission is mis-listed as an auto when the VIN starts with a V. The 2014 ATs I've seen all are French-made, while the 2014 MTs were still made in Japan. (Edit, those are for L models. I don't even look at the LEs because they weren't offered in a manual.)

You wouldn't believe how many dealers apparently think any time the shifter is on the middle console, it must be a manual transmission!

But interesting on the parts actually being different.

How has your LE been? Maybe I've been concerned about nothing. I've looked so long and found so little, maybe I need to be less picky.

^^^ I had an automatic 2007 Yaris (made in Japan), and now I have an automatic 2014 LE (made in France). Both outstanding cars! Having driven mostly MT's, I was hugely disappointed with the Yaris MT when I test drove a few, so I chose the 4 speed AT... and I can say this little automatic transmission is brilliant!

My french-built 2015 has been tight-as-a-drum, except for two notable exceptions:

- Plastic fin pieces on underside of front bumper in front of the front tires were installed completely wrong at the factory. Local dealership installed them correctly for me, and now they fit perfectly and tight.

- Something wasn't secured properly inside drivers-side roof pillar above front door, and it annoyingly vibrated/rattled on rougher/choppy roads (most roads around here, lol). I had local dealer take apart that area and reassemble it properly. Now, nothing rattles/vibrates whatsoever in the car.

No other problems to report with my particular French-built Yaris. I've had it for about 8 months now and 9000 miles.

My 15 SE Yaris is very solid. It came from the factory with a loose piece of upper plastic on the passenger side and the storage container behind the manual stick shift has a broken plastic clip on the right side. The dealer is going to order a replacement. 14k happy miles.

i just bought a french-made ex rental 2014 l 4-door magnetic gray with 45k miles. the other 3 2014 4-doors on the lot were also french made. my yaris is tight as a drum, most tossable little car since my long gone, still mourned 1966 mustang. the only out of sorts spot are rear carpets coming out from rocker panel 2-3 inches.

i should add my sincere thanks to all the posters here for the great info i picked up. i will describe my ex-rental buying experience a bit later.

To kimona -- I've never owned an auto transmission and really don't want to now, but there are so few manuals out there, and the few that I find are many hundreds of miles away. I did rent a Yaris for a few days a couple of summers ago when I was on vacation and I have to admit the auto transmission wasn't bad at all and I really enjoyed the car. In fact that was kind of what put me over the top to wanting one, and to wanting the 3rd gen.

To jstert -- I have noticed some great deals from Hertz sales on those 2014 Ls. As impressed as I was with the one I rented, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one from them at all.

They are in the top of the yearly tüv report, Which ranks cars by the german Road worthy controls every 2 years.

To jstert -- I have noticed some great deals from Hertz sales on those 2014 Ls. As impressed as I was with the one I rented, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one from them at all.

please see my separate post on hertz. car drives great but has undisclosed non-oem bumper. i would not accept hertz certification and clean carfax at face value. you can find cheaper, non certified hertz rentals for sale. im unsure if hertz certification means much. used recent yarii are hard to find.
