Would you drive with this tire ? It was manufactured in '07 . It's on a relative's car they just purchased and can't convince them on how dangerous it could be . Hope everyone is doing well .

Under certain conditions like around town and just to work. I would also inspect them on a regular basis and I wouldn't be exceeding 45 mpg (which I never do anyway under those conditions)

If I was going on a trip or had to drive on the freeway where I might be going 85 mph (or 10 mph over the speed limit) yes I would have them changed.

As a motorcyclist for over 300,000 miles and 40 years and as a pilot and with ZERO accidents or injuries I know safety is NOT in the vehicle or equipment.

For tires just to drop and pick up the kids at the day care. I wouldn't mind. But I tend to steer away from tires older than 5 years.

No way, dry rot.
Unsafe & unpredictable.
Seen/investigated way too may accidents that had "no" cause.

So the biggest issue with the risk is the insurance claim if they end up in an accident. In Maine those are not considered safe to pass inspection so you get into a fender bender with something like that ypu are SOL.

Funny thing, I just replaced a spare tire on a gmc Sierra 2wd truck yesterday that had a DOT date code from 2002.
Dry rot that bad is never a good thing.

I believe it was MONRO that did the state inspection and gave it a thumbs up . The small used car dealer uses them . The relative thinks the tire is fine since they passed it :bonk: . Doubt it'll be replaced .

Well, even though they had just a tad over 28K miles on them and plenty of tread left, the Riken Raptor tires I had on Sprocket were as badly dry-rotting thanks in part to the intense Texas heat, so I replaced them. Here's how bad the old tires were...

It's your life (and possibly the lives of others) riding on your tires, why risk it?
