battery question

is it normal for a battery on my yaris i bought new in april of 2011 to go bad on me already?

car only has 22k on it

also i replaced it with a yellow optima battery was this a good choice?

Depends on a few things:

How often you start the car
What kind of accessories you run in your car
If you run accessories with the engine turned off for long periods
How old the battery actually is

Generally speaking battery should last least couple of years. Mine have last at least 3 years in some of my cars.

Unfortunately I don't know about yellow optima battery. I use Repco batteries which are rebranded Century batteries. They come with a 3 year warranty.

During the recent 20,000 mile service on my 2012 Yaris L, the dealership noticed my battery had a bad cell in it. The battery was replaced free under warranty.
