I would like to put my Nexus 7 tablet in the dash because I dont use it for anything,
I would use it for storing music files mostly and play them thru a DAC. I have ruined too many CDs form dust ridden cd players so I want to skip the CD player.
Where do you think is a good place for the 7 inch Nexus.???? It doesnt have 3G.

Someone on this forum mentioned doing some integration into the center console, like a touchscreen head unit. Hopefully (s)he'll chime in.

I have my N7 2013, previously the first gen, a Barnes & Noble Nook Color installed in the center console.

Best I can do for now:

Its running Torque Pro app whenever I drive, the bluetooth OBD is visible on the left. Pretty much the thing is friction fit after some cutting. I have 1 amp running the speakers and another for the sub.

ez, did you match the Torque Pro colours with the footwell lights, on purpose?

What is the torque pro app for????
There is only 1 micro USB port on the Nexus. So power and USB connect to the DAC would have to come out of that one connection..how do you do that???Is there a special connector you can order that splits into both a power lead and a USB end???Can you get a spliced cord that would also allow a USB storage stick to be attached also??I could have music on that. 16Gig isnt a lot of onboard storage if you are using FLAC files.
If I manage to get it in it will be running an open source Android or Linux. I will remove all the Google crap. But if I do that ..can you recommend an OS that would allow me to use a GPS program of some kind??Thats all I need is music and GPS.

I really have no problems keeping the stock OS on there. After all, free updates.

But yeah, as for USB connection, I would rather use the Nexus's internal storage and Bluetooth connectivity.

And Android Google maps works great for navigation.

Your music and navigation demands seem more inline with the $400-$600 options out there.

Yes, the floor lights are a teal color, previously it was all red lighting interior (all the cubbies and bottle holders as well) to go with my (robotic) Transformers theme. Now its gonna be Tron theme.

The Torque App, communicates with the OBD computer to display all the data the car can give out. Im using it for Coolant, Intake temps, MPG calculations, fuel flow etc. The obd reader is like 5-10 bucks, the app is 5 bucks. The tablet is semi installed, i just have to peel the radio trims and pop the tablet out for "tablet" usage. Not too much of a hassle as I also dont want to leave it in the car just in case of a break in LOL.

Though i havent done it, you could use a usb splitter to both charge and have OTG flash drive to have lots of music. I just have it charging all the time and settle with on board music or pandora (internet provided by my Galaxy S4).

I dont have clean audio coming out of the tablet, i just use the headphone jack out connected to an amp that powers the speakers which also has rca outs which is then connected to 2nd amp that powers the sub.

Like a detachable faceplate, only functional even detached. Love it!

And that amp you connect the Nexus to, is it fully concealed, deep in the double-DIN slot? I'm considering a stealthy installation similar to yours, and I could use some experience-backed pointers on how to pull that off.

My amps and audio setup isnt pretty by any means lol. The amp that drives the speakers sits under the spare tire, Basically, to maximize the room back there, I took out the spare tire deck, and moved the spare tire over enough that my sub box can fit snug next to it.

And the sub amp is bolted to the box. So i run a headphone jack to RCA adapter that makes it way to the hatch where all the electronics are at.

If i remember correctly, the first gen Nexus 7 is just tall enough (vertical tablet wise) that its perfectly flush to the radio trim with no gaps. But i have a N7 FHD now so theres a slight little gap on the left and right (tablet is shorter vertical wise).

Any daytime shots of your center console setup?

You can watch a couple of videos I did of putting one in my Chevy Aveo. I then immediately sold my Aveo and got my Yaris, heh.

Going back and viewing my own video of my Aveo has spurred me to do this to my current car, my Yaris. I've got all my old wires and amp and stuff, but was wondering if there was any insight on a good way to mount it in there.

So far I've ordered the cheap Yaris double din kit with harness and an OTG + Charge cable to get things rolling. If all I use is the wire harness that's OK but thought it couldn't hurt to get the kit, heh.

Awesome. How about a play-by-play of the install?

The nexus 7 just wont fit in the Yaris. I thought about modifying the fdash to force it in there but it's just not going to look good and I would loose the control of the two vents.

I've purchased a Galaxy Tab 4 7" to see if that will fit. It's width is substantially shorter than the nexus 7 but its not as good as a tablet as the nexus.

Oh well. :)

Yeah, i just live with the fact that my vents dont have control.
