View Full Version : Yaris Face Transplant?

Hi everyone

I have a 2012 3-door Yaris.

Now, as you know, the new 2015 Yaris face-lift has recently been launched.
I'll go and have a proper look at the new model later this week, but what I've read up on it so far, it doesn't look like it would be worth the upgrade for me.
I rarely drive the car myself and it is mostly used by out of town guests who flew in, so my car is still fairly "new" with low mileage.

The only really obvious thing that sets my car and the new spec apart is the new face. I'm aware of numerous other things, but the face is the most obvious one. My car already has the touch screen and BT, which is now standard locally, albeit with a bit larger screen. Mine also has dual zone climate control, which is only offered on the Hybrid locally.

Will the new spec's OEM front bumper (I'm guessing the grille part is different too) fit the 2012? Has anyone done this or researched it? Assuming this isn't too costly, I might consider this.

I'll ask the dealer too when I go look at the new car, but they don't always know and it's often easier for the parts guy to just say no than to do a bit of digging.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Should I have posted in the Cosmetic Modifications section instead?

Sorry, still finding my way around here
Mods, please move if necessary.

Thanks

Headlights have changed in their shape so you'd need to replace those as well.

I would assume you will need to change hood, fenders and front bumper with all grille accesories

No. Sheet metal does not change. They only play with plastic and poly bits when face lifting.

Yikes, I wasn't aware that the actual shape/size has changed. I know they look a bit different, but I thought the size/shape remained the same.

I know there are subtle changes in different regions.
From the pictures that I've seen in local publications and the ones which the dealer that invited me to have a look at the new model has sent me, the lights' shape looks about the same as my current car's. I must admit that I haven't really looked that closely at it though.

Definitely something to make very sure of before anything else. Changing the lights (unless they have changed to projectors/Xenons, which they haven't - not locally at least) isn't part of the plan and would surely be out of the budget that I have in mind for this project.

Thanks for the replies.
Not looking good so far then... :frown:

It looks as if the 2015 rear lights will fit, but you'll need to add back-up lights.

Thanks.

The rear lights aren't really a priority for me.
If I can't get the front end done (within a reasonable budget - I don't think this is undo-able), then I'll probably give up on this project altogether.

I'm not too keen on throwing too much money at the car, since it's not a daily drive and I won't keep it for more than another year or so, which wouldn't make a drastic difference to its appearance and possible future saleability, like the new front end would.

If I had a 2015, I'd be trying to fit a 2012-2014 front end on it!

I hear you.

Toyota has made a bold move with the new front end, but it's on par with what other manufacturers are doing to get their cars noticed. Like Ford did with the Astin Martin style grille on the Fiesta.

I'm not loving it, but I don't dislike it either. I don't think it wears the new Toyota/Lexus face as well as the bigger cars.

Like it or not, it does date the pre-facelift cars.
