Winter Wheels?
In my neck of the woods...we have hot, hotter and rain. Sometimes all in the same day.

195/55R16 is quite big of a tire size on a yaris.

Lol, I'm in North Florida and we do get chilled for about a month, maybe depending on your definition of chilled.....

Especially for snow tires. I have 195s on 15" rims that I purchased used and once they are due for replacement I will definitely go down to 175s.

They were a decent deal, what are potential downsides?

why?

Oh come on February in Florida is cold, and it has snowed in Daytona Beach before.

The extra width means a larger traction area, which means that you will be apt to sit on top of snow, rather than digging through it. The serious filling of the wheel wells means that it will be easier to have the snow get really packed in. If that occurs in the front, you can do some damage when turning the wheel with packed snow in there.

no. It gets below freezing at night sometimes from december to early march, but when the sun comes out it is usually at least in the 60's.

In the USA, I'd say if you are not within New England, you probably don't need winter tires.

So do you have guys have to keep paying to mount/unmount and install your tires every winter? Doesn't that get pretty expensive? I live in Cali so I only use one set of all season tires and I'm good to go.

I have a separate rim/tire sets. One for winter one for summer. I mount them onto the car myself at my office. Its cheaper to have two different wheel/tire sets.

Think how much money this guy saves from fewer car washes, less fuel and less wheel tire purchases through out the life of the vehicle. I'm sure if you added it all up it would be enough to supercharge our cars. Damn you California and your glorious weather and fake boobies! :respekt:

I bought a spare set of steelies and mounted 185/60r15 Blizzak WS 70s.. I'll post a picture once they're on after thanksgiving or whenever the first snow hits Southern New England.

Time will soon tell how a lowered Yaris will do in the snow lol
