I have just recently realized that an increase in psi helps my handling and my mpgs. 185/55/15 on Konig feathers TRD shocks springs an rear sway. Ran my tires at 28 psi for a cush ride got 23 mpg city. Per each tank. Now at 34 psi all around and mpgs 27 city and I can corner a lot faster/ firmer. Continental tires 44 psi max rated. Just wondering what others got with different tire sizes etc. Freeway idk my figures I do mostly city driving. My driving style is spirited.

I used to run 38-40 PSI, but lowered to the Toyoita spec 32 PSI last year. I now average a bit over 40 MPG and the higher PSI level I used to run was only a very slight bit above that.

35 psi and ~36 mpg never drive more than six miles. MPG will be lower in winter at least in NJ.

Running 17 inch DE Edge wheels with 205/40/17 Atrezzo tires. Ran 32 psi for a couple of tank fulls at first when I put the new wheels on, got average 34 mpg. Bumped it up to 36 psi right now, average is around 36 mpg. Haven't gone any higher on psi. On stock steel rims with 185/60/15 tires at 35 psi, I was averaging 39 to 40 mpg.

I don't lollygag around town. I run 70 to 75 mph on expressway, 100 miles a day back and forth to work. Otherwise, would get run over in Atlanta traffic.

usually between 54-56 psi on either my summer or snow tires. I used to run 63psi in my old xB1 tires

If i know icy conditions are favorable I drop the snow tires to 38lbs

ive had like 20 tanks that averaged over 50mpg with a best of 54mpg.

lately I havent cared as much and been only getting 47mpg...which reminds me I really need to enter in my gas recipts into EcoModder...i have a pile of them

why?

I haven't a clue what my tire pressure is, I assume it is 32 like the door says. Last tank was 46 mpg.

36 psi fronts 38 rears. 7.3 l/100 km (32 mpg) because I love stop-and-go traffic and turns at every intersection.

I run max in front, and a few pounds less in back (these particular 15's, crap S rated came with car) I run at 44 psi front and 40 rear, typically empty-ish load wise. Get 28-33 city and 38-41 highway....also spirited driver....

wow ..plain and simple and dont take this the wrong way but running tires at ur pressure is stupid and dangerous just to save on gas :bonk::bonk:
The car is to be at specified tire pressure of 32 psi tires can take a max of on average 44 psi unless ur running E rate truck tire rated for 80 psi under max load . I honestly dont get ppl and i see this quite often , keep in mind the four patches under ur car is all u have from hitting a tree lol

32 psi is what the Toyota says for comfort, not what the tire manufacturer knows their tires can handle.

44 psi the max? Actually tires have different cold maximums on the sidewall.

10 extra psi is not going to harm anything. Tires must take much more so manufacturers won't be sued over exploding tires on highway in 100+ degree weather.

True to a point but keep in mind a tire that is over inflated does not preform as intended .
Our car are to run at 32 for best of both worlds and a tire with 10 psi over the max is asking for trouble as u drive tire gets warm pressure goes up and so on.
I have seen first had what happens to tires that are over inflated and would hate to have a blowout while on a hwy and don't forget the wear and just a waist of tires just so u can get few more miles out of a tank.
Tire pressure can make or brake a car in how it drives ,handles etc do what u like I say but be safe about it not stupid cos of being cheap cos in the long run u pay more.
Just my 2 cents on that

The Altimax RT43 are 51 max . Still keep tires 34 > 36 for any tire . Didn't see much benefit in high p.s.i., only stiffer ride . During colder months try to keep them at 36. So when air pressure drops on those very cold nights or days they're slightly above or at 32 .

I played a little game with myself when I first got my sedan yaris. Wanted to prove that if you drove like a prius and pumped the tires to about 36-39 psi that I could break the 35mpg in city. Remember I have a automatic but after learning about the yaris and prius having the same gas engine trick called DEFCO ( De-accelerate engine fuel cut-off ) at about 900-1100 rpm on the motor when slowing or "gliding " from stop to stop I got up to 41 mpg IN TOWN....YES, It is possable to do it with a auto. Yes, you will learn to listen to your motor just like a motor cycler does and back off the "petal" some. You must use TOP TIER GAS to pull it off ( Union 76-Chevron- or arco mid grade will work) and slowly start from stops with rpms below 1900. Have fun exploring what a YARIS is really built for...Endless possibilities and F U N. Enjoy

Raised mine from 32 to 36 front and 34 rear. Seems to get a bit better mileage, I average 35 no matter what I am doing, but now its been 36 to 37 MPG. I will not raise any higher due to road vibration and noise increase.

I pump mine to 40 every 2-3 months. I rarely check them because I haven't noticed any habitually leaking tires.

My results also, never below 40, except for extended high speed what the hell trips.

During the winter months, I deflate to 32 lbs., on the front only, as it MAY make the difference in letting me drive the Yaris instead of the AWD Rav4. The wrong choice means I get to walk the last 1.5 mile home. I often risk it just to drive the Yaris all I can it saves me so much money. And it just looks cool.

44 psi in the rear and 40 psi in the front

70% freeway, 30% city

2007 5-speed liftback

34-36mpg on average. Winter months drop it down to 32-34mpg. My driving habits wouldn't be the cause as I maintain a very steady pace and never gun it when going from a complete stop.

trip to Milwaukee and back today. 2014 5 speed manual. 432 miles. 9.88 gallons used. all tires at 34 psi.

43.7 mpg's

mostly interstate with speeds ranging from 45 mph-70 mph depending on traffic congestion. a couple traffic jams.

too bad it wasn't summertime...it would have been better.

Nearly always gotten 40+mpg with 40 to 42 psi all the way around on Goodyear Fuel saver Max 185/65 R15 tires. However, if I jump up to 75+Mph the mileage will drop to 35 mpg. D2 racing coil overs, GT Spec mid chassis brace, and Cusco front anti roll bar. Recently, raised the ride height on the D2 racing suspension. So my numbers will likely drop a little. but the speed bumps are becoming a pain, or rather thud in the rear.

I usually get between 34-37 mpg. I'm on Megan coils, running 195/45R16s on 16x8.5 wheels. I have a whiteline rear sway bar, and a 12" sub in the trunk as well :)

I just purchased a 2011 1.5 auto with 40k on it as my daily commuter. I am excited to see what mpg I can get. I will try for 50+. I have not seen a 60 yet? My psi is set at 65 psi right now. I have played with psi for years. I have never had a blow out but I am well aware it could happen anytime.

I use the Opel Adam 'eco' tire pressure on my Yaris:

2,9 bar on the front
2,7 bar on the rear

I have 15" (stock) size tires

Opel Adam regular pressure is around 2,2 bar front and 2,1 bar back (or some value very similar to the Yaris)
Taking turns is much nicer with the eco pressure, I get the idea the tire deforms less in a corner.
MPG is up too & Ride is not too harsh

Besides I found that my "thread" on the tire wore out more on the sides, and less on the middle.
I would guess that the tire more suffered from underinflating, then from overinflating

I keep my tires 37 PSI on all 4 tires.

I usually get anywhere between 33 MPG and 36 MPG depending on how I drive, I rev match and heel toe on the street - thats what you get when you daily drove a modded Delsol for 8 years.

One thing I have noticed is that your highway speed plays a big factor in your MPG figure.

I have found that after 55 MPH every 2 MPH faster you travel your MPG will be reduced by 1 MPG.

So I can get around 46 MPG+ average if I travel at 55 MPH. All my numbers are full tank averages. I know at 55 MPH the Yaris is getting over 50 MPG.

I dont keep my Yaris empty either, JL10W7 system, my tools and laptop, lunch bag and usually a bunch of computer and printer parts.

200 miles a day most of the time.

The 37 PSI must really help your MPG. That's higher than I find comfortable these days . At 32 PSI with about a 60/40 split between freeway/surface...and going 55-60 on the freeway:laugh:, I get 40 ...or a hair over. Last tank....slightly over 60 % freeway (but up to 65 re speed) and 33 PSI....I got a bit over 41.9 MPG.

My tires are at 40 psi. Mileage is 37/38, all city except a few miles every week.
I follow the scan gauge, try to coast a lot, use cruise and shift early. Boring
as hell. This week I got wild and went 85mph for a two mile stretch.
I wonder how much my mileage dropped.

Id like to pick up a scangauge soon cant believe I waited so long.

Nook - Im on stock suspension if that makes any difference, although Id like to lower it but I drive a lot for my job so winters and snow make it difficult.

Wow, such high tire pressure with no benefit at all from what I'm reading here.

- 205/45R16
- lowered 1.5", 1ZZ TB, 1ZZ intake manifold, header, 2-1/4" SS freeflow exhaust end to end, TRD sway bar.
- 26 psi rear, 30 psi front
- 65-70 mph = 35-37 mpg
- 50-55 mph = 41-43mpg

I just drive the car, nothing special!!

Rigaud - you have modded your Yaris which might increase your MPG but the larger heavier tires subtract from your MPG.

My yaris is bone stock with the addition KNN filter and about 100lbs of stereo equipment.

Even if increase tire pressure only gave me .1MPG per tank increase Id still do it.

My Crosstrek hybrid has active grill shutters and aero wheels which are heavier then standard wheels. Doubt those 2 things combined even provide 1MPG increase but its still something the engineers are thinking of to squeeze every last .1 MPG

I read all three pages of this blog and not one person here mentions why tire manufacturers rate their tires with a max tire pressure. Theirs also a rating for maximum load on every tire which coincides with the pressure all depending on your vehicles weight. The correct way to set tire pressure is by looking at your contact area on the the road after driving but it's made easier with stated recommendations. Just because they rate a max of 45-50, etc... doesn't mean you can or should.

By the way, I get lower mpg now then when it was bone stock. Also I didn't ask a question here just observing peoples reasoning!!!

Doing 37 PSI here currently, and averaging 38 MPG (95% city/in-town driving), but the ride on lower-profile SE 195/60 tires on poorly maintained/constructed roads can be pretty brutal sometimes - and occasionally causes some annoying door-area rattles that don't otherwise manifest themselves on decent roads. :frown:

I might try and drop down to 33 PSI soon and see if the ride improves on those rough, jarring in-town Phoenix roads.
