Heliums?????????

I was reading in the vendor section and someone posted that the Konig Heliums crack. Is this true? I'm going to be autocrossing on them and I do not want to purchase if they are going to crack on me. Any one else have this problem???:iono:

For every person that has come on here saying Heliums crack, there have been a hundred others that run them with no problems. Like everyone else said, if you aren't taking them on the track I wouldn't worry about it. If you are, I'd consider something forged. Heliums and other cheap lightweight rims are cast, which is why they would crack if they do at all. Forged will cost you. Either that or stick to a heavier cast wheel.

That said, Heliums are fine to autocross with. They pass all of the certification tests. There are so many of them sold, of course there is going to be failures, that is to be expected with any manufacturered part. Rims rarely just break. There is usually something that causes a crack, and it fails later. Something liek an accident, running into a curb or deep pothole could be the cause.

I ride them pretty hard...! and no problem so far. I would see some danger on a more powerfull car.
Just check the wheels after each race. And in the event of a crack... well those are some pretty cheap rims so no big deal.

Honestly, I like Konig wheels a lot. The Heliums I've stayed away from. They're a cheap, lightweight wheel which is good in theory. However, to achieve this affordable price tag, Konig used a really cheap material in which to make the wheel with. That being said, I'm sure that for daily driving and a some light autocrossing, they would be fine. God forbid you hit a pothole or speedbump too fast though.

Like CASTREX said though; since they're cheap, they're easy to replace.

This is from someone who bought Rotas complaining against Konigs? People across the country autocross and do track events on Rotas and Konigs EVERY WEEKEND. You can find people that have broken or bent every brand of wheel in existance. It happens when you hit things.

I have seen more lightweight expensive forged wheels bend over potholes than I have cast wheels.

Daily driving is much harder on wheels than "racing" is anyway. If it holds up to potholes and speedbumps you are going to be fine on a smooth piece of pavement.

If you run a low profile tire you can bend ANY RIM hitting a pothole at speed.

You are the one on the bashing wheels bandwagon.

I'm not bashing Konigs or Rotas. I have owned more than 2 sets of both brands. I bent one of the pair of Rotas on a 2 inch unmarked graded area on the road. I was doing 65+. Nothing is indestructable. My Rotas were great, I never had an issue with them. Konigs are not made of cheap metal no more than Rotas are.

I could say the same ignorant crap about your slipstreams. They were light, just as light as Heliums. They must be made of crappy metal then right????

Konigs are no better than Rotas. Rotas are fine. Konigs are fine. The all pass the same certification tests. Get over it. BTW there was a batch of 17 inch Rota Attacks for Subarus that broke about 5 years ago. Probably 20-30 people had spokes crack or rip the spokes out of the wheel. Shit happens, it is a mass produced part.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll roll with the heliums, good points made on cheap and easily replaceable. And they look good.
