Hello people of the forums. I am brand spanking new to the forums today and yesterday I just bought a brand new Streak Blue 2015 Yaris SE. I still haven't take delivery of the car which will either happen this afternoon or on Monday. I had a heck of a time finding any information on the facelifted 2015 model let alone the SE. Mine is an auto, I would have preferred to get a manual transmission but I was told it would be over a 3 month wait to get one from France... My folks each owned second gen Yari, my father loved his and he finally got rid of it with 198,000 miles with only ever really having to replace the alternator besides normal wear and tear items of course and maintenance. My mother was t-boned by a suburban and was just shy of having the insurance company replace it with a new one but didn't quite make the threshold, unfortunately the car never was quite right after that so she traded it shortly after that. Thank you all in advance since I'm sure I have a bunch of questions. I plan to do all of the servicing myself after the 3years/36k miles. I would say I am some what more knowledgable than the average Joe with working on cars since I'm coming from a bulletproof w123 300D Benz.

Welcome. I'm a recent new Yaris owner myself, having bought a 2014 SE six months ago. Great car. Love it. I see you owned a Mercedes diesel. I came to Yaris from a VW TDI which was anything but bulletproof.

Yeah I still have one w123 euro spec 300D. The one I got rid of was and still is somewhat incredible... I sold it to a friend he is going to keep running it. It currently has about 420,000 Miles with no tranny or engine rebuilds. Pretty amazing.

But even without those major services, those MB's can cost a ton of money to keep up. I know someone who bought one with almost 200k miles, and the car is in impeccable condition. Yet when something minor goes wrong, it seems to cost almost $1k every time.
That is the best part of the Yaris. everything is so inexpensive to repair.

Don't get me wrong the Benz was far from perfect but as a daily driver it was very cheap to keep it running with doing all the work myself. If they had a shop fix it everytime there is a bug then theres no doubt in my mind it would be expensive.

Former 1979 D240 with manual trans owner here.
Mine was very nearly perfect!
And cheap to own because I did all the work myself. Averaged about $250 per year for parts..

So I picked my Yaris up today from Northway Toyota in Latham, New York. I had worked with a Sales rep named Laurie and she was great through the whole process. This was my first car I had bought from a dealership. So far I love the car and I put on about 50 miles tonight after picking the car up. I love the fact that the SE has the projector lenses for the headlights but I do wish the bulbs were cooler in color more similar to modern Xenon bulbs. I honestly don't know how the high beam/low beam switch over works for instance if it uses a shutter like some of the Mercedes/BMWs use or some other system. If it is as easy as swapping the bulbs then I will definitely do it. Anyone know?

Hey people, so far the car has been fantastic. As ridiculous as it sounds I've put just under 200 miles on the car since I picked it up Monday night. I've attached some pictures of when I picked up the car and also a picture of it at night with the LEDs on.

One of my favorite features of the SE model is the fact that it adds Projector lenses to the headlights. That being said I'm disappointed with the color temperature of the bulbs used. I pulled one of the bulbs last night and found it to be a Philips 9012. Does anyone have any recommendations as to a website or company to buy HID upgrade kits from? I want a high quality long lasting kit and I know Halogen to Xenon conversions are controversial with if they blind oncoming drivers but since the car has projectors I think they will work just fine.

That is one sweet Yaris I'll admit :w00t:. And I don't see what's wrong with the color temp of the lights from your last pic. Looks to be about 5,000k, which is completely normal.
About your inquiry: You want to talk to Garm of MicroImageOnline.com (or PM him @ cali yaris). He only sells high quality parts at great prices .

In that last picture the headlights aren't on just the LEDs which is the color I would like to match the headlights to.

Hello And congrats...I own a 2010 yaris sedan and its wonderful. With all the buzz about Prius vs. Yaris and learning that a yaris is really a prius without the hybrid battery to worry about in my research, you could'nt have a better mode of transport and safety. You can read some of my posts and many others. It's the "supercar" that toyota made for all of us. Enjoy the new ride and to save even more gas read about the tips on the forum. Best wishes...Jay and the YARIS owners...

Hello people of Yarisworld, I have had the car for over a month now and I've put about 2k miles which have been great. I have also invested in some simple steel wheels with some very nice Nokian Hakkapeliittas. I found some cheap racing disc hubcaps on amazon and figured why not. Tell me what you think, kind of doofy but keeps the look clean and unique to say the least.

I like it! Are those covers or wheels?

I'd be afraid those would cause brake heat problems.

Yeah I kind of dig them. I work at a multi franchise dealership and a bunch of the guys kind of laughed and agreed that it looks like a salt flat racer. I hadn't thought of a brake heat disipation issue. It is the SE model so it has disc brakes all around. I don't do any heavy braking by any means so I'm not going to worry about it.

...and you live in Albany NY where it seldom gets hot anyway.
I myself grew up in Cobleskill where we never had AC in our cars or houses when I was a kid!

UPDATE: Been driving the Yaris for a couple months now and just turned 3000 miles the other day. I live in Albany, New York and we've had a bit of winter weather and this is what the Yaris looked like after driving about 15 miles or so... The car handled really well for what it is, the Nokians I put on it definitely helped.
