1.33 engine strange tapping on idle

Hi,
Since the car (yaris 2012, european, 1.33 CVT) was taken from dealer there was strange irregular tapping sound on idle when engine is fully warmed up (~20 min drive). I've pointed out to dealer on first service and have got the answer that it was regular vvti sound, the same said regional Toyota representative. Oil was tried from 0-20 to 10-30 tapping was always there. Here is the recording I've made today in the parking lot after 1 hour drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpXm6DqkKwk
The tapping is irregular, high sound, when you hear it once you can't unhear it :). At the dealer's they say that I shouldn't worry as engine is under warranty, but still I want too get to the bottom of this, any opinions?
BTW, I've heard the other cars from the same period - some got the same tapping and some not.

Even with my lousy hearing it was apparent.
The tapping remained constant which would rule out the valve train.
I'm stumped.
Maybe Scott will have a good guess.

I would consider the sound in the video to be pretty normal, particularly for the 1.33L, which to me is a bit more ticky than the 1.5L.

Thanks Scott, what about irregular tap-tap....tap-tap-tap-tap...tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap...and so on (cleary heard from 15s)?

Even that sounds normal. If anything there might be a slight exhaust leak from the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the mid pipe.

Your 2012 1.33 1NR-FE engine happily tap-tapping brought back found memories in my mind. Go check following thread + the three links on post# 10 (mine).

Your concern is hard to pick up for an unexercised ear; I can clearly hear it on/and/off on the background. I was a former iQ owner and got rid of the car after being completely exhausted fighting this over with Toyota. There was a fair share of these 2012 engines badly bored or whatever. Some would tap "cold", some would tap all the time (even hot like yours), some this, some that... exhausting !!! there were different outcomes to the problem depending on severity and local laws: indifference from Toyota, short block replacement, car buy back under lemon law... etc, etc... exhausting !!! CTScott you know you're right, finally I was able to pinpoint where the tapping comes from, exhaust manifold, under the heat shield, that's why it's very clear could be heard from the passenger side wheel arch. Actually the same tapping but very weak i can hear from my rav4, so I guess it some kind of toyota's feature. Reminds me my friend's 2003 corolla that had sounds from intake manifold....
