Re-Wiring Project - Any advise before I begin?

Heres the idea:

Rewire:
- 3 power outlets (two in storage compartments, 1 in back on center console)
- Stereo to Amp (installing to HI-Lo converters - so speaker wire)
- Amp to Power (thinking connecting to fuse box, with inline fuses - instead of direct to battery)
- Fog Lights (to fuse box, instead of to battery)



so what I'm wondering if there is anything i should be careful of, or any tips to make this whole "project" go smoother... thanks in advance

I don't have any advice, but I would like to see some pics of the aux power outlets in a DIY. I want to wire a couple extras in but don't want to just start splicing into stuff. Hope it all works out great! :thumbsup:

and there is a guide for adding an outlet.. but i think it may tap into the stock wiring...

Seriously dude, good luck. I have to do the same soon and let me tell you how excited I am about crawling up under the Yaris's dash again. :cry: Better yet, running more wire through the door boot! :cry: :cry: That dash is a nightmare.

i've been debaiting weither or not it will be easier to remove the front seat... or if that will just end up being a pita, then again if i do that, then I can redo my seatbelt alarm disarm switch... and maybe even add one to the passenger side...

running that much wire i would remove as many seats and panels as neccessary, reason being is then you will be able to hide the wires and run them how you want as opposed to trying to tuck them around and behind everything. Seats are very easy to remove 3 plugs (for my sedan anyways) and 4 bolts just get an E-10 star socket to remove the seats. It'll help having a lot more room in the car as well.

ok, always wire the amps to the battery, and have a fuse within 6" of this main cable!

under the plastic door sill trim, on both sides is a nice channel to run wires to the rear of your car etc...

extra outlets, what do you plan to use them for, how much wattage etc.. if you have them all going at once, you'll probable blow a fuse.

and finally thought you had an aftermarket head unit?

The extra outlets are going to be used for Charging cellphones (2), powering tomtom, and ipod. The back one will be used for passengers (either cellphone/ipod/power inverter for laptops.... each power outlet will have its own spot on the fuse box.

I think I'll just get a thicker power cable for the amp (you dont want to know what I'm using now...) and as suggested run it back to the battery.

No, no aftermarket HU (just swapped out LED colors), I'm planning on getting one..... but I'm going to wait till the one I want is not so new (aka i can grab cheap off ebay :smile:)

the are wire guides running down each side, as well as one going from under the center of the dash to the center of the car (atleast with my auto sedan)

Do some reading in the stereo section, cuz everyone here that has done it disagrees with you.

I swapped the speakers out and that there made a HUGE difference... the amp was added because well, the stock stereo pretty much has no power.

I have this project about 3/4s finished... I have to re-ground the fog light relay, and double check 2 of my outlets... and then I'll be posting up a DIY :thumbups:
