When to change ignition coil.

I don't think there is a set life to the coil packs. Usually the indication of them going is misfires (with known good plugs).

2006 with over 230,000 kms. No issue with coils. When they start to go you will typically get a check engine light triggered by a misfire code.

Well the car sometimes has extended crank before it starts (sometimes).

I did get an engine light a few weeks ago which i reset by pulling the negative terminal off and putting it on.

The car can accelerate up to speed OK. But seems a bit sluggish and the mpg is down a bit.

I purchased new coils and iridium NGK spark plugs.

depending the position the engine stops in, it can feel like there is an extra turnover on the next start up. I've noticed this before occasionally.

Did you pull the code from the CEL? This would help give you a better idea if it was a specific cylinder misfiring. If you haven't changed the plugs in a long time (>80,000km) then change those and see how it runs. Chances are if it was a bad coil, it would run rough. You can tell what cylinder it is by running the engine and pulling the coil off each cylinder at one time. If the car doesn't change how it runs when a certain coil is taken off then that specific coil is likely not firing properly. Better to just pull the CEL though.

The lower MPG could be a few things, I know where I'm from I've recently gone from an avg of 5.1 L/100km to 5.45 due to colder temps and change in fuel composition for the winter. Check your plugs and see how they look as well

Coils should last a long time. Coils typically go bad when they overworked due to trying to jump too large of a gap on a burnt out spark plug, or arching past one of the rubber seals that insulate the coil from the cover/head.

Try cleaning your maf sensor & t-body.

Seafoam the intake and you'll find out how much better it runs. It'll clear up all your emission problems.

If the NGK plugs number ends with the suffix -11 they are pre-set to our gap. Otherwise you should confirm/adjust the gap. If I recall our gap is .43 but double check your manual.

Correct me if i am wrong. But is the BKR5EIX-11 for the 1.3 Yaris and BKR5EIX is for the 1.5 ltr Yaris? what is the difference? I think i got the wrong plugs.

I ordered the BKR5EIX-11 so the 11 at end means it's pre gap?

There's also one with no 11 at the end. BKR5EIX, I'm confused lol.

I looked for 1nzfe engine spark plug code it's listed as BKR5EIX with no 11 at the end.

Decided to change the battery it didn't really get rid of the wrrrrrrrrrrr sound and hesitation on start up.

So i changed the coil pack :wink: and behold it seems to cure it also the ride is better so far less jerk on take off and better pick up.

Spark plug change to iridium BK didn't do much either except improve the mpg slightly.
