205 40 17 Feedback Needed

I own a 1.5 Yaris hatch and I am thinking about fitting 205 40 17 on stock suspension 17 x 7. I live in Sydney Australia where the roads are relatively good but I am still concerned that these would result in a very rough ride. Could anyone who have fitted this size on their Yaris comment on the comfort of the ride.

Comfort is subjective. Coupled with the soft stock suspension you will still be fine, tho definitely not as cushy as stock 15s. Recommended 205 tire sizing on a 17x7 is 45/17 which will give you a little bit more sidewall.

If you're running stock suspension, I'd definitely run 205/45/17's.
Toyota OEM is 205/45/17 on TRD suspension.

If the wheels have the correct offset, no. Stock offset is +45

I'm in the process of getting some 205/40r17s for my Yaris also. The wheels I got are also 17x7 but I am unsure of the offset as was the previous owner. He had 2 bald 205/45r17s on there that I test fitted and ran for a few miles. The ride didn't feel much different from my current setup of 15x7 wheels with 185/60r15 tires. I did notice a slight difference in acceleration though, not sure if it was due to the different gearing caused from the overall diameter change or if the wheel/tire combo was lighter than what I was running. Unfortunately for me I won't be able to give any feedback about the set up since it is snowing here and wider tires are just asking for trouble.

Thanks for your feedback. How would you describe the slight acceleration difference between 185 60 15 and 205 45 17. I have changed from 185 60 15 on steels wheels to 205 55 15 alloy wheels around 5 pounds heavier per setup and I easily fell a difference in acceleration. Also why are you going with 205 40 17 and not staying with 205 45 17.

To me the car felt more responsive to throttle input, especially in stop and go traffic it took less effort for me to the the car moving from a redlight. The reason that I want to go to 40s instead of 45s is mainly due to the difference in the overall diameter height, with the 45s the difference is roughly 1/2" larger while with the 40s it is about 1/4" smaller, while with both there'll be a small difference in the reading of the speedometer the smaller diameter should result in a gear reduction allowing more torque to the wheels (faster acceleration) with lower top speed which I believe should "free up" some response from the engine. Just my $0.02
